New Jersey creator Earl Hicks stumbled upon terrarium-building during the Covid pandemic when everything everywhere was in lockdown

around the country and the world. Drawn by the metaphor life-affirming growth even in confined space, Earl experimented and built dozens of terrariums of different shapes and sizes. “Oh, my god; not another bottle,” his girlfriend Lois would exclaim when he came in with a novel shape or design.

👶💙💕 Help Me Settle a Friendly Debate! 💕💙👶

One of the most fun events I've ever been part of was Ms. Q's baby shower! There was so much laughter, excitement, and love in the room as everyone celebrated the new little one. It reminded me how special those moments are.

That inspired my next terrarium project...

A heartfelt thank you to Milltown Public Library for being our Featured Community on Terrarium Building 101 Live!

Milltown has been an incredible partner. Together we've:
🌱 Hosted a hands-on Terrarium Building Workshop
🌿 Installed three living terrarium exhibits for the community to enjoy
🎁 Celebrated our first Featured Community Challenge, where participants joined us live and earned their own mini terrariums!

It's inspiring to work with a library that believes in bringing people together through nature, creativity, and lifelong learning.

🌿🏺 Every Terrarium Has a Story... and So Does the Container. 🏺🌿

One of my favorite places to visit is the Columbus Farmers Market in Columbus, New Jersey.

Most people walk through the market looking for treasures to take home.

I walk through looking for the perfect vase, bottle, or unique glass container that can become someone's future terrarium.

Over the years, I've gotten to know many of the wonderful vendors there. Today, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and ask a few of them to introduce themselves on camera.

I wanted you to meet some of the friendly faces who help make this market such a special place.

You never know...

The beautiful glass container that becomes next week's terrarium giveaway may have started its journey right here!

If you're ever in the area, I encourage you to spend a few hours exploring the Columbus Farmers Market. You'll find interesting people, unique treasures, and maybe even the perfect container for your own terrarium.
