A few days ago, in Los Angeles, a chair leg damaged carpet and several thousand $$$ of apartment deposit was at risk for replacement of nearly new carpet as the young woman was preparing to move out.
Parking was an issue, but resolved…and was on the 14th floor…but elevators are wonderful.

In comments, I have pictures and commentary of the $200 (what I charged, normal for this) repair…also my minimum charge to haul tools in and out…and do my drive within 20 miles.

There are, of course about 8 additional steps using specialized hot glues of differing melting points and “space age” microwave iron that less than 1% of carpet techs own (or for many…have even seen).

Before I pack up my tools and hit the road, I have several “stressing” techniques I use to simulate a few months of walking, vacuuming and aggressive steam cleaning to assure I will not need to return for minor adjustments.

In actuality, the repair is substantially stronger than the original carpet as there are micro-layers of substrate reinforcing with fiberglass strands embedded, criss-crossing the seams, and the seams were sealed with a super strong specially hot glue that was re-melted, causing the patch to in effect be “welded” to the room carpet in addition to having been glued down into the reinforced patch.

My guess is coals fell off a Ho**ah, the guests were too "high" or too slow to remove them.

In older carpet, where light and foot traffic has faded and worn the fibers, a piece of the identical carpet does not instantly blend. in this case, a cleaning will help, a month or two of getting dirty again will help more, and in 6-7 months may just look like a wet spot--definitely better than a bleach spot.
