Zach Top told the Zach Sang Show that he pitched “I Never Lie” to multiple major labels in Nashville, and every single one of them turned it down.

They told him the song did not fit what was working on country radio. “You hear what’s having hits today? This ain’t it,” he recalled being told. The 1990s throwback sound that reminded fans of George Strait and Randy Travis was apparently too traditional for Nashville’s taste.

Then Leo33, a brand new independent label, signed him as their very first artist in September 2023. Both Zach and the label had something to prove, and they bet on each other. His producer, Carson Chamberlain, who was once the tour manager for Alan Jackson and Clint Black, believed in the sound when nobody else would.

“I Never Lie” went number one at country radio. It went viral on TikTok. It earned Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. His album “Ain’t In It For My Health” won the first-ever Grammy for Best Traditional Country Album. He picked up five ACM nominations in 2026, and fans are screaming every word back at him every single night on his Cold Beer and Country Music Tour.

Every label that said “this ain’t it” is watching from the sidelines now. Turns out, it was it. And traditional country music is alive and well because one kid from Washington state refused to change his sound for anyone.
