The event on August 8th just got a little sweeter as Belle Jampol will be joining alongside us singing live as we sip specialty brewed tea, draw from a tea inspired still life, and just simply create.

T. will be making a Taiwanese Oolong tea along with a Longan Flower Herbal tea as she shares her long studied knowledge and passion behind tea practices.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about drawing, painting, and creating is that you “have to be good at it”. I have found that the most interesting pieces of art come from when someone has created their own unique take and version on what inspired them. I want to stress that this event and the art events to follow are welcome to all experience levels. I want these events to be fun, spark a creative flame you may not have known you had, and welcome anyone and everyone.

Bella Laine - the combination and shortening of Isabella, my daughter, and Elaine, my grandma. The name, Bella Laine, came to me while I was still living in San Diego and I was making a macrame plant hanger with baby Bella in my lap. I had the thought, “If I ever own an art boutique, what would the name be?” and that’s when I thought of Bella Laine.

If you would’ve told the 2017 version of me that this art boutique would come to life, I would’ve never believed you. If you would’ve told the 2018 version of me, the one that was pouring candles in my tiny Key West kitchen in the first slides, that Bella Laine would be in the location that it’s in today, I would’ve thought you were crazy. If you would’ve told the 2020 version of me that the brand of Bella Laine would expand way beyond candles, I would’ve asked you how that would be financially possible. If I could go back to the early days of this entrepreneurial journey and tell myself one thing, I would say “What’s meant to be, will be.”

The very first art driven event at Bella Laine: Still Life Drawing & Tea Tasting. A collaboration between .coil and myself that we lightly touched on before I even started painting the Fleming Street walls.

Many may not know this, but I’m actually an art school drop out. After realizing that I actually didn’t NEED to know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life at 19, I decided to pull myself out of college and move to Key West. What I do remember loving about art school is the freedom of free drawing. To sit in front of a staged still life or human figure and just allow my mind to flow onto paper. It was peaceful. It was relaxing. It was freeing.

I met Taylor, also known as T, a few years ago when she wandered into my shop and we began chatting about our mutual love for New York City. I shared my favorite coffee shop in West Village that’s also a tea lovers heaven, Paquita. When Taylor began talking about tea, she blossomed with passion. She shared with me that she’s a 2025 graduate of the Being Tea Teacher Certification program and that she independently traveled to China, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan to observe and taste the different cultural tea practices.

When I asked Taylor what she would like others to know about her love for tea, she so beautifully wrote, “I’m a multidisciplinary artist & lifelong student of tea whose practice acts as conduit for self-actualization, activism, and eco-somatic awareness. I first came to know the joy of tea as a pathway to connection and inspiration by studying Chinese tea traditions & working with my mentor in her NYC traditional tearoom. The ancient history of the tea plant, camellia sinensis, and its relationship to people and place across time and borders has forever since captured my heart.”

You have no idea how excited I am to open my space as a safe haven for all the creative thinkers, dreamers, and doers. I want this to be a safe space where each and every person feels like an artist in their own right.

Many have asked and here it is!

The official grand opening of Bella Laine at 601 Fleming Street will be on Saturday, June 27th, from 10:00am-7:00pm. A unique blend of boutique, gallery, and art cafe. The interior and history of this building is beautiful and I can’t wait to open the doors for all to enjoy.

My first time creating washed walls was no easy feat, and I wanted to abort mission within 30 minutes, but this little guy has shown me nothing is impossible. Nothing is ever too hard.

After getting through the thoughts of wanting to just stick with the original paint coat, it became therapeutic. A mental escape. Luey was keeping himself occupied with a paint stick and I was easily forgetting about the news we received yesterday that Luey will be undergoing hip surgery in the fall or winter of this year. Not words I wanted to hear, but results I had been mentally prepared for. Luckily we have the summer to keep getting him strong, as I continue to stay strong for him.

I’m blessed with the best shop children in the world. And I can’t wait to watch this little guy make so many big leaps in this new space.

Well, the time has officially come that I announce my last day open on Duval Street, which is this Sunday, May 17th. I still don’t think it’s set in yet.

This storefront has housed so many growths, changes, and moments. I first moved to Key West at the young age of 20 and Duval Street was the conductor of the fun, messy, late night fun train. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would operate my own boutique on this street 14 years later all on my own dime. No investors, no help from a partner, just me, myself, and a whole lotta work ethic.

A shop where my daughter would continue to grow, walls that I would navigate through my saddest time of life in, and where Luey would meet the faces of so many that prayed for him. This space, 1128 Duval Street, has been a safe space for so many and I will forever cherish the sweet moments and conversations that started with strangers that have turned into friends.

One of the sweetest memories I have from this space is when I made my first sale, two minutes after the door opened, and it was my Manifestation candle. I looked at Bella, nearly having had a panic attack right before she ripped the papers off the windows, and her smile was one of the biggest smiles I’ve ever seen her wear. It was the face of “We did it!!!”. I’ll never forget that feeling when I saw her happiness. It told me that we were going to be ok.

“When it feels scary to jump, that’s exactly when you jump. Otherwise you end up staying the same place your whole life. And that I can’t do.” A quote I will forever live by. So heres to new beginnings, fresh changes, and a special home that I believe Bella Laine was destined to be in.

At the most recent Oscars, the best actress winner dedicated her award to “the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart” and now I can’t think of our hearts as anything but. My heart, split into two, permanently walking around outside my body.

The feelings of doing too much, but feeling like you’re doing too little.
Wanting to do more, but knowing one more task will mentally break you.
Wanting them to spread their wings, but wanting to protect their hearts from the world.
The desire to work less, but wanting to provide the very best.
The guilt of resting, and feeling like you should be playing.
Feeling like your love is given all to them, that there’s barely any left to love yourself.

The most magical, exhausting, rewarding, chaotic feelings wrapped in a ribbon in the shape of a heart. That’s motherhood. The first year of Luey’s life almost broke me mentally, physically, and emotionally. As a parent, you learn to dig for strength from the deepest parts of your soul knowing your little loves rely on it.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas in the world, because this job isn’t for the weak.
