🔥 CANDLE CARE 101 🔥
Trim It, Center It & Let It Burn, Sugar!
RBF Southern Candle Company
Handpoured with Southern Charm 🩵
Alright, y'all! Gather 'round because we're about to have ourselves a little candle-burning heart-to-heart!
Now, we know some of y'all are seasoned candle-burning professionals, while others are out here lighting candles like they're starting a backyard bonfire. Bless your hearts! 😂
Here at RBF Southern Candle Company, we put a whole lot of love, patience, and Southern charm into every candle we handpour. And we want you to enjoy every last bit of that goodness!
But here's the thing, sugar. Even the prettiest candle needs a little TLC.
There are THREE golden rules to getting the most out of your candle:
TRIM IT. CENTER IT. LET IT BURN!
✂️ RULE #1: TRIM THAT WICK, DARLIN'!
Now, let me ask y'all something.
Do you enjoy setting your hard-earned money on fire?
Well, technically, you bought a candle, so I suppose you do. 😂 But there's no reason to burn through it faster than necessary!
Before each burn, trim your cotton wick to approximately ¼ inch, or follow the specific instructions provided with your candle.
Got a wood wick? Those little beauties may need a shorter trim depending on their design.
You don't need anything fancy. A wick trimmer works wonderfully, but a sharp pair of scissors will do the job, too.
Keeping that wick properly trimmed helps prevent excessive flames, smoking, and soot buildup.
And please, for the love of sweet tea, remove those wick trimmings before lighting your candle!
We don't need little burnt bits floating around in our beautiful wax like unwanted relatives at Thanksgiving dinner. 😂
🎯 RULE #2: KEEP THAT WICK CENTERED!
Honey, a candle wick should be centered just like Grandma's prized centerpiece on the Sunday dinner table.
Not leaning left.
Not leaning right.
And certainly not hanging out against the side of the jar like it's trying to escape!
A properly centered wick helps your candle burn evenly and reduces the risk of overheating one side of the container.
If your wick appears off-center, don't try to fix it while the candle is burning or the wax is hot. Extinguish the flame and let everything cool completely.
If the wick is significantly displaced or too close to the glass, stop using the candle.
Because while we love a little drama here at RBF, cracked candle jars are NOT the kind of excitement we're looking for!
🕯️ RULE #3: SIT YOURSELF DOWN AND LET THAT CANDLE BURN!
🔥 ATTENTION, BURN BABIES! 🔥
This one right here is important!
You know how Grandma used to tell you not to keep opening the oven while her biscuits were baking?
Well, candles need a little patience, too!
When lighting your candle, give it enough time to develop a nice, even melt pool across the surface, ideally reaching close to the edges of the container.
For many container candles, this may take a few hours.
But remember, never burn your candle longer than its recommended maximum burn time, generally four hours.
And don't go leaving it unattended while you run to H-E-B, take a nap, or chase your husband around the house because he moved something you JUST put away! 😂
A candle that repeatedly burns for only a few minutes may develop something we call tunneling.
And honey, that's where things get interesting.
🕳️ WHAT IN THE TARNATION IS CANDLE TUNNELING?
Ever light a candle only to discover that the wax is burning straight down the middle while perfectly good wax clings to the sides?
Well, congratulations, sugar. You've got yourself a candle tunnel!
And no, we're not digging our way to Oklahoma.
Tunneling happens when the candle doesn't develop a wide enough melt pool. Repeated short burns can contribute to this, although wick size, wax type, and candle design also play a part.
Some folks call this the candle's memory ring.
Apparently, candles remember things, too.
If only my husband could remember where he put his keys as well as a candle remembers its melt pool! 😂
🤠 CAN YOU FIX A TUNNELING CANDLE?
Sometimes, yes!
If the tunneling is minor, allowing a longer, supervised burn within the candle's recommended time limit may help the melt pool widen.
But please don't start scraping, digging, wrapping your burning candle in aluminum foil, or performing a science experiment in your kitchen.
If tunneling continues or your candle starts burning unusually, reach out to us. We'd much rather help you troubleshoot than have you risk an unsafe burn.
🚨 A FEW MORE RULES FROM THE RBF CANDLE POLICE!
Because we love y'all and want you coming back for more candles!
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Keep candles away from curtains, paper, decorations, and anything else that might catch fire.
Keep them out of reach of children, pets, and curious husbands.
Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Keep candles away from ceiling fans, open windows, and drafts.
Never move a candle while it's burning or the wax is hot.
Stop burning when approximately ½ inch of wax remains in the bottom of the container, or as directed on your candle's safety label.
Never use water to extinguish a candle.
And for heaven's sake, if your husband says, "Watch this!" while standing near an open flame, you might want to extinguish that candle immediately! 😂
🩵 FROM OUR SOUTHERN HOME TO YOURS
At RBF Southern Candle Company, we don't just pour wax into jars and call it a day.
We carefully handpour our candles, test our creations, and put a little piece of our Southern hearts into every one.
Whether you're burning something sweet and nostalgic, warm and cozy, or a fragrance that takes you right back to Grandma's kitchen, we want every candle to give you the best experience possible.
So remember, sugar:
✂️ TRIM IT!
🎯 CENTER IT!
🕯️ LET IT BURN (SAFELY)!
Because life's too short for bad candles, wasted wax, and unnecessary drama.
Well... maybe not ALL the drama. We are RBF, after all! 😉😂
