🦋Hey fam,

Years ago, one of my mentors said something to me that I still think about all the time.

"The devil is a master at making you go and look for what you already have."

When you hear wisdom like that, you start seeing it everywhere: your friends, family, and in your own heart.

One of the ways I see it the most is with creatives in the church.

I've met so many musicians sitting in a local church on a Wednesday night, running sound, leading forty people in a youth room, absolutely
convinced that "real" ministry is happening somewhere else.

They think it's happening in a bigger room, with better gear, and a bigger crowd. They spend years reaching for something they were already holding.

Now, I know that pattern because I lived it... but backwards.

I was out on the road playing shows and doing the exact thing a lot of people are dreaming about right now. And what I wanted, the whole time, was to be back in a local church. So there you go.

Whatever room you're in, there's a voice telling you the good stuff is in the other one.

Here's what took me a long time to understand:

Discontentment is a strategy of the enemy.

It's the oldest trick in the book.

Go back to Genesis 3. Eve is standing in a garden that has everything in it, and the serpent's whole play is to get her looking at the one thing she doesn't have.

The enemy doesn't have to convince you your life is terrible. He just has to keep your eyes off of it.

The same thing happened with Israel in the wilderness. God's dropping food out of the sky every single morning, and the Israelites are standing there reminiscing about their meals back in Egypt.

They're eating a miracle and complaining about the menu.

Wanting more is human. I'm guilty - I do it all the time! What gets me is how fast our contentment drops once we have what we want.

The job you prayed about for months. The person you begged God to bring into your life. The house. The church.
The city. The season you're standing in right now.

There was a version of you not that long ago who would've given anything to be exactly where you are today.

When's the last time you thought about that?

Paul tells Timothy that godliness with contentment is great gain, and I used to read that word "gain" like a runner-up prize. Like contentment is what you settle for when you can't get the real thing.

But Paul is saying contentment is the wealth. If you have it, you're already rich. And if you don't have it, nothing you chase will ever be enough.

Now, I want you to hear me on this:

God absolutely moves
people. He calls people out of good situations into new ones all the time, and l'd never tell you to ignore that.

But before you make any decision, check one thing: Is God moving me? Or am I just tired of what I have?
