Have you found any "dry land fish" yet? It's that time of year! I always watch for may apples, redbuds, and leaves the size of mouse ears (seriously!) The soil must be at least 50* and not hold water. Say hi if you're already finding some!

Today we took the opportunity to travel some Scenic Byways of Southwest Virginia, beginning with Big Walker Mountain Lookout near Wytheville. In addition to the fire tower built in 1947, the pass is also of historical significance as Molly Tynes used it to reach Wytheville and warn them of the impending assault and raids by General John Toland during the Civil War.

Old Russell County Courthouse in Southwest Virginia. The original courthouse was built in 1799. Today the interior has been lovingly restored and there are exhibits in the second floor. To the left is a log cabin which sells local photography and crafts. A very nice lady named Barbara took us through the courthouse.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen copies of my work on Pinterest or other websites. I have even seen people on Pinterest replace my contact info on photos I took of my own work with thier own. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but that doesn't make it right.

PART ONE This morning a person told me he was going to hang my print he purchased in his barn for his llama and goat to look at. Sounds like a wonderful place

Skyline Drive winds it's way through the Shenandoah National Park. 105 miles of intense effort by young men of the CCC, over 1,000 families displaced under the guise of "welfare and concern." Resorts that were enjoyed by the affluent last century now cater to explorers from every corner of the globe. As we rounded the last half mile to the Swift Run Gap entrance, we startled a juvenile black bear sitting in the middle of the road. 68° and blustery rain kept us from our planned hike, but we will be back.

We couldn't resist the opportunity to sneak away from work and responsibilities this weekend...these last couple of weeks were full of obligations and stress and my inner gypsy grew restless. So we headed North through the Old Dominion, through the Shenandoah National Park via Skyline Drive, and also cruised down some of the best representations of small town Main Streets returning from the edge of extinction.
