Layering season is here. If you live in the Hudson Valley you know you need a coat wardrobe.

I learned this concept traveling to Chicago when I ran the Outerwear division Ralph Lauren
When speaking Bloomingdale's for a coat conference (yes, thatā€™s a thing I used to do), I encountered a woman who taught me how women living in truly cold climates choose a different coat almost daily.

Needless to say, ever since then I have used this as justification for filling three closets with coats šŸ§„ Do you have a coat wardrobe?

West German Vase by Strehla
What is so interesting about the West German pottery art movement?
it was a time of modernist expressionism melting with mid mod colors and shapes, particularly the highly sought after UFO silhouette.

Simultaneously there was a similar movement going on in East Germany. There were even mirror design houses, Strehla produced both in East and West Germany. Though true to East German design, the colors lacked the vibrancy of the west counterpart, confined to muted tones of gray, black and white.

The lime green fat lava glaze was especially rare because the colors in the glaze is mixing together, going through four or five different firings would often muddy the color. To achieve a pure clean bright lime green was rare. As a result, these pieces are very collectible and a challenge to source.
