Although we are no longer in 4H, we've kept this business going and have expanded our product line as we've grown. My brother and I started Perlichek Farms about 4 years ago with our Perlichek Preserves. We sold jams and jellies to make money that would help us pay for the costs of our 4H livestock. As we got older and found more talents and learned new skills, we started selling more than just th
e preserves. We sell candles, wax melts and wooden yard art like our gnomes as well now. Over the past 4 years we’ve done a lot in our community and 4H Club and used some of our profits from the jams and jellies to purchase the supplies for our community service projects. This year we are making 400 knitted hats and scarves for local homeless veterans. We’ve made care packages for those serving our country. We even started the Foster Care Comfort Pack Project in our local 4H Club, because we saw that roughly 18 kids are admitted to the Foster Care Centers each day with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We took the time to separate the bags by age and gender so that each child could have what they would need. There were toys and stuffed animals for the younger children. Older kids got art supplies and journals. Every backpack had a blanket, an age appropriate book for them to read, and age appropriate toiletries as well. We hand made many of the fleece blankets that went in the backpacks and in the end we had almost 700 backpacks with the help of our local 4H club, friends and family. We also did Christmas and Valentines gifts for our local Senior Citizens who don’t get to see their families much. With all that we have learned and experienced we have decided to branch out and try to sell new things.
