You can visit one of Tennessee’s most magical spots at the Ancient Lore Village in Knoxville, where a storybook world of round, hillside homes, stone cottages, colorful wooden doors, gardens, little bridges, and waterfalls waits in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Winding stone paths lead through the village, with grassy roofs, carved wood details, glowing lights, and cozy fireplaces adding to the fairytale feel. Guests can come for a day visit, join a guided story tour, enjoy a meal or special event, or book an overnight stay in one of the themed dwellings, including the Fairy Cottage and Waterfall Villa. The village is only about 15 minutes from downtown Knoxville, even though the wooded setting feels far removed from the city. One of its most unusual buildings, Bokee’s Bungalow, was built 19 feet underground and covered with 75,000 pounds of dirt to support its grassy roof. From the paths and gardens to the one-of-a-kind rooms, nearly every corner is designed to make you feel like you’ve stepped into a storybook.

“We made a quick overnight trip to Knoxville and had a lovely night at Ancient Lore Village.

All of the employees were top notch both with information and services. We loved the accommodations, location, and had a wonderful evening meal on site. We picked a local b**r which was a nice, rich IPA (Blackberry Farm) and the coffee was quite good!

Walking around, we loved the details of the garden(s) and some plants even had botanical names displayed. We sat at beside the fire pit before and after dinner and observed every amazing detail of the construction of Ancient Lore.

We hope to return and bring family, too, and meet Tom personally to thank him for a job well done!”
