Users may have noticed we have a new site. There was a significant threat to websites all over the world, including the Quilt Index. One of our main programmers was on vacation in Paris, but was still able to take down our site before any harm was done. Luckily for us, our programmers had foreseen this problem and were almost finished with the new site. I was scheduled to start reviewing the new site last week. So the choice we faced was keep the site off-line until the reviews were finished or go live as we work through the issues. So we've gone live and ask for your patience as we work to finish the site. Next up for me is to learn how to add and edit records since the threat also affects our backend data base. Wish me luck!

Today's quilt seemed appropriate for election day. Illusions of Value was made by Paula Lowery McRae for a Quilters Guild of Arcadiana (Louisiana) challenge. And being in Michigan, we've had a heck of a week in our Senate election trying to sort through the politicians' values. https://quiltindex.org/quilts/9-6-2349/

Quilt making in 19th- and 20th-century America was interwoven with the times. SLAM visitors can see works exemplifying this in two of our exhibitions, Quilts and Coverlets: American Needlework in White and Picturing Independence, as well as the Museum’s online collection. The exhibitions and collection feature quilts made by women who practiced their craft amid a rapidly changing country.
