👇🏻Not all floors are the right fit for your project 👇🏻

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is choosing flooring based on two things:

💲 Price
🎨 Color

That’s it.

But flooring isn’t one-size-fits-all.

A floor that’s perfect for one home can be completely wrong for another.

For example:

- Some hardwoods struggle with heavy direct sunlight.
- Many floating LVP products aren’t ideal for high-traffic commercial environments.
- Certain floors perform better with pets.
- Some handle moisture better than others.
- Some are better suited for rentals than forever homes.

That’s why we ask so many questions before making recommendations.

Not because we’re trying to sell you something.

Because we’re trying to help you avoid buying the wrong product.

Good flooring professionals don’t just sell floors.

They match the right floor to the right environment.

Industry standards from the NWFA, TCNA, and CFI all focus on one thing:

Using the right product in the right place.

Because the best floor isn’t always the prettiest floor.

It’s the one that’s still performing years later. 👊

👇🏻 👇🏻 FLOORING ARGUMENT TIME 👇🏻 👇🏻

Installer:
“Just throw some glue under it and put weight on top.”

Experienced installer:
“Or prep the floor correctly the FIRST time.”

A LOT of installers still try to fix:

- dips
- movement
- flex
- uneven seams

by squirting glue underneath floating floors instead of correcting the subfloor.

Problem is…
floating floors are engineered to FLOAT.

Spot gluing random areas creates stress points in the system and can eventually lead to:

* clicking
* peaking
* joint separation
* broken locks
* hollow sounds

And here’s the funniest part…

Most of the time the glue isn’t even properly bonding anyway because there’s usually:

* attached pad
* v***r barrier
* underlayment

underneath the plank. 😂

So now guys are out here:

- cutting moisture barriers
- compromising the floor system
- avoiding actual prep

just to save time.

According to National Wood Flooring Association guidelines and most manufacturer specs:
subfloor flatness and prep matter MORE than shortcut fixes.

Tiny movement? Sometimes normal.

Using glue as self-leveler?
Absolutely not. 👊

(PSA - This will also void your warranty.)

The more you know.

⚠️⚠️ BUILDER GRADE STRIKES AGAIN ⚠️⚠️

My installers were in the middle of tearing out old carpet in a second-story home and discovered the ENTIRE upstairs was particleboard.

That immediately creates a major issue for luxury vinyl plank installation.

Why?

Because particleboard:
- swells easily
- hates moisture
- weakens over time
- is not a good substrate for self-leveling products

So now instead of simply installing flooring…we have to:
- overlay plywood
- add labor
- add prep work
- create a proper substrate BEFORE leveling

And yes…that increases the cost for the customer.

This is one of those hidden construction issues homeowners never see until the old flooring comes out.

A lot of older and builder-grade homes used particleboard under carpet because carpet could hide the imperfections.

Hard surface flooring exposes EVERYTHING. 👀

According to National Wood Flooring Association guidelines, subfloors must be structurally sound, flat, and suitable for the flooring system being installed.

Good flooring starts UNDER the floor.

👇🏻 🤣 FLOORING ARGUMENT TIME 😂 👇🏻

Installer:“There was no other way to get it under the jamb.”

Experienced installer:“There absolutely was.”

A LOT of installers still:
- cut the tongue off
- shave the locking system
- super glue the plank together
- just to get flooring under door jambs and tight areas.

And then wonder why months later:

- joints separate

- edges peak

- planks move

- floors click

- material stops sitting flush

💀

Truth is…Most of us did this when we FIRST started installing because we lacked:

proper tools

proper techniques

proper experience

But over time you learn:shortcutting the locking system creates future problems.

Floating floors are engineered as ONE interconnected locking system.

Cutting the locking profile apart and replacing it with super glue is not the same thing.

According to National Wood Flooring Association standards and most manufacturer installation guidelines:maintaining locking system integrity matters.

Good installers learn techniques.
Bad installers defend shortcuts forever.

🤣CONSTRUCTION ARGUMENT OF THE CENTURY🤣

- Door guys:“1/4 inch under the door is correct.”

- Flooring guys:“Nah… make it 1/2 inch so the floor doesn’t rub.”

- HVAC guys:“Actually we need 1 inch for airflow.”

Meanwhile the homeowner is laying in bed listening to the bedroom door whistle like a haunted harmonica at 2am.

Funny thing is… every trade is technically arguing from legitimate industry concerns:

Finish carpenters care about appearance and fitment

Flooring installers care about floor height, movement, and clearance

HVAC cares about pressure balancing and airflow

This is why communication between trades matters MORE than ego.

Because when nobody communicates…the floor rubs,the air doesn’t flow,the gap looks ugly,and somehow it still becomes the flooring guy’s fault.

⚠️⚠️Vapor barrier thickness matters ⚠️⚠️

Some installers and contractors still use 3mil plastic under flooring because it’s cheaper, thinner, and faster to work with.

Problem is… cheaper now can become VERY expensive later. 💧

Moisture coming through concrete slabs and crawl spaces is no joke. That moisture can lead to:

- cupping
- warping
- swelling
- mold issues
- adhesive failure
- floor separation

The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends a MINIMUM 6 mil polyethylene moisture barrier for concrete slabs and crawl spaces in many flooring applications.

That extra thickness matters.

6mil plastic is more durable, more puncture-resistant, and provides better long-term moisture protection than thinner 3mil material.

This is one of those things customers never see… but it absolutely affects how long the floor lasts.

Good flooring installs are not just about what looks good today.
They’re about what STILL performs years later. 👊

⚠️⚠️ Beware of the lipstick on a pig! ⚠️⚠️

This could make you really sick.

Some of these “updated bathrooms” in the Hill Country are nothing more than mold with fresh grout on top. 💀

Cracked tile.
Separating grout.
Black mold.
Moisture intrusion.

Then somebody comes in:

* cleans it
* recaulkes it
* paints it pretty
* rents it out

Meanwhile the waterproofing system underneath is likely FAILED.

According to Tile Council of North America standards, tile and grout are NOT the waterproof system.

So if the tile is cracking and grout is separating like this… there’s a VERY good chance moisture is trapped underneath.

People out here covering up health hazards instead of fixing them properly. 👊

Note: In the photo is a few other photos put together in a post that an investor was asking for someone to come clean it up and re-grout it. This is a huge problem.
