So many people remodel the rooms everyone sees and leave their own primary bathroom for last.
Yet this is where you start and end every day. This room needs to function and feel good to be in! Imagine starting your day with soft music, heated floors, and a nice steam shower. Then, getting ready with the perfect lighting at your vanity. Imagine ending your day with a relaxing bath and instead of looking at the mildew growing in the corners of your shower, you enjoy a beautiful marble slab! Can you relate?

Last year we created a Santa Suite at the with a traditional theme of red, green and plaid. This year we are hearing about the Ralph Lauren Christmas trend. Should Christmas decor be a trend or just all the decor you collected over the years? Possibly tacky, shiny, and mismatched but it brings out the spirit of Christmas that reminds us of our childhood. Do you change your Christmas decor each year or keep it traditional?

Clients often ask me about cabinet color recommendations. One of my current favorites is this medium-brown custom stain applied to oak on our La Jolla remodel. It’s dark enough to eliminate the yellow tones often found in oak, richer than the honey tones from the 90s, and has no hint of grey or red. This versatile stain looks great against light oak floors and adds depth and contrast.

A common mistake when selecting exterior colors is going too white! If you are looking at a tiny sample or looking at paint colors inside, you will not get a proper reading of what this will look like on the outside of your home in natural daylight. We are choosing an Oatmeal colored stucco for this home, but in the environment it looks almost white. If we had gone with a white color, it would look out of place next to all of the natural landscape. If you are looking for a natural off white, don’t be afraid to go a little deeper in color for your exterior.

This La Jolla Primary bathroom went from dark and and enclosed to light, airy and opened. You won't believe the last image is the same shower! We maintained the same layout, but changed all the finishes to low maintenance yet luxurious materials, installed a free standing tub and designed a large glass enclosure for the shower.

We love it when we have the opportunity to create spaces for our clients to relax and unwind. Designing this bedroom lounge space for an amazing couple was really fun. We hope it brings more moments of peace and calm. One thing we know is that many more books will be read in this space!
