A spectacular map of South America, the Caribbean, Florida, and the Gulf Coast, along with a marvelous treatment of the unknown southern continent, first published by Jan Huygen Van Linschoten.
The map is west-oriented, showing the continent on a horizontal axis. To the right, or north, is Florida with over twenty toponyms included. The Caribbean stretches between the continents, with islands, sand bars, reefs, and shallows labeled. Mexico and Central America are also thick with toponyms denoting towns, lakes, and coastal features.
South America is split into Spanish viceroyalties and other administrative units—Peruvia (Peru), Chile, Castilia del Oro (Colombia), and a vast central region called Peruviana. To the east is Brasilia (Brazil), controlled by the Portuguese. There are large mountains ranges separating the Guyana region from the south, cutting east-west across Brazil, and cutting north south in the west.

Fine example of the rare first edition of De Jode’s modern map of the Middle East, from his Speculum Orbis Terrae, published in Antwerp in 1578 and engraved by Joannes & Lucas Van Deutecum.
This rare map shows the Arabian Peninsula in fine detail. A number of interesting geographical features appear. The Persian Gulf is given a second name - the Mare El Catif, named after the port of Qatif near Bahrain. Near this name, two islands appear, which allude to Bahrain and an erroneously mapped Qatar; Bahrain is mentioned as an important pearl-diving center. Detail goes eastwards to the western coast of India, which was heavily influenced by Arabian culture at the time.

This remarkable chart stretches from “Rood Eyland” (Rhode Island) in Narragansett Bay all the way up to Cape Cod and Plymouth. Look closely and you’ll spot Martha’s Vineyard under its early name, “Marten Swyniaerts or Elisabet’s Eyland,” with Nantucket (“Nantoket”) tucked into the southeast.
The Dutch influence is unmistakable - the Cape Cod peninsula itself bears the name “Nieuw Holland,” while its curving tip is marked “Staten hoeck.”

Map historian Philip Burden called it “a legendary rarity on the open market.” ✨

Landmark Map of North America by Coronelli with California as an Island
Fine example of Coronelli’s cornerstone map of North America, one of the most influential maps of the continent published in the late seventeenth century.
The map is cartographically similar to Coronelli’s esteemed globe of 1688 and is richly embellished in his characteristic style. In the upper left is an elaborate title vignette featuring several gods who find themselves in the New World. They have sumptuous robes and voluptuous hair, but also a map, compass, ship, and other modern instruments. The title states not only the maker of the map, and his position as cosmographer of the Republic of Venice, but also lists the dedicatee, Felic Antonio Marsily, Archdeacon of the Cathedral of Bologna.

Rare separately published example of Blaeu’s map of Virginia, and the Chesapeake region, based upon John Smith’s map of Virginia, the most important map of Virginia published in the 17th Century.

This is the second state of Hondius’ rare separately issued map, first engraved by Jodocus Hondius in 1618 and purchased by Blaeu following Hondius’ death in 1629. The map depicts the discoveries in the region detailed by John Smith in his seminal map of Virginia, first issued in 1612. Because of the commercial success of Blaeu’s Atlases, it is Blaeu’s map of Virginia that influenced two generations of European map makers regarding the English mapping and discoveries in the region. It was the primary influence on other maps of the period and the standard map of the region until Augustine Hermanns’s map of 1673.

An original manuscript plan and decree defining the colonial frontier between the Spanish Viceroyalty of New Granada and the Portuguese State of Grão-Pará and Maranhão - today’s border between Brazil and Peru.

Drafted by Francisco Requena, Spanish military engineer, governor of Mainas, and commander of the Fourth Spanish Boundary Commission, it features an elevation and ground plan for a stone obelisk alongside a calligraphic proclamation marked “PARA FUTURA MEMORIA.” On 5 July 1781, Requena and his Portuguese counterpart Teodosio Constantino Chermont formally agreed on the boundary markers along the Yavarí and Yapurá rivers, under the 1777 Treaty of San Ildefonso.
