Designers! 📣 We’re THRILLED to locate antique shops that specialize in the unusual & unexpected - for me to deck out our Pioneer Wood Company Pioneer Village mercantile-tavern-coffee shop and other structured with 🎯😜🏆

Steve and I hit America Reclaimed in Comfort and LOADED up our trailer with architectural goodies and furniture to install in the Village. I’m keeping most of the pieces a secret a little longer - but that’s where we got this perfect gable window.

Dying of heat 🔥during framing - not much fun. But shopping for architectural historical treasures to make the 200 yr old settlermade barn purdy … winner winner 🏆

If you go - tell owner Sarah that Gret & Steve sent you 🇺🇸

On a very personal note: Steve Bradbury and I (and very often our whole crew) eat at La Vernia’s Baldys Classic American Diner La Vernia on 87 WEEKLY … and often a couple times a week. Good ol’ American 🇺🇸 Diner food my parents raised me on. The staff are phenomenal and the place is ALWAYS packed or nearly full when we come for breakfast or lunch. But this is personal …

A couple weeks ago I put my computer and purse in the chair next to me, and Steve and I left to run to San Antonio for another business appointment. In my hurry, I grabbed my tea with one hand (what’s a Texas-born girl gonna do without her tea??) and my purse in other hand … and out the door I flew. The room we were in was full. An hour later, as I was getting out of my car for the appointment (AFTER BALDYS WAS CLOSED for the day), I realized I had left my brand new MacBook in the seat … that contains 20 years of my life. I was physically ill the remainder of the day and had nightmares all night long.

The next morning, I called as soon as they opened. I said “This is Gretchen…” and her immediate response was “We have your computer! Safe and sound! I tried chasing you out the door, but you had left. We’ll hold it for you til you can make it back here again.”

I didn’t know they knew my name 😂❤️🙏

That was 2 weeks ago.

Today I walked into the restaurant for breakfast with Steve, and the waitresses said “you’ve got it!”, and a CUSTOMER came up to pay and told me that even she had tried to grab it for me before I left.

The epitome of Small Town. Community. Looking out for each other. Blessing one another. I’m profoundly touched. Just wanted to share that. If you come visit us at our new Pioneer Village this Fall from surrounding towns, and love classic diner food and all-day breakfast - Baldy’s is literally 1-2 blocks away. Tell ‘em Pioneer Wood Company sent you (and don’t leave your computer behind!).

LV’s own Amanda of Rye Of Light Bakery has stocked our mercantile with her SOURDOUGH STARTER, and SOURDOUGH PANCAKE mix - as well as her customer-favorite SOURDOUGH CRACKERS that are SO good they’ll be served on every table with wine, cider, tea and beer in our Pioneer Tavern starting this Fall. You’ll LOVE them. We also include them in our cider & honey tasting classes with Hill Country Cider House and Wood Valley Honey, alongside The Toasty Lemon charcuterie (which will also be served in our Tavern daily).

Amanda is also a sourdough class teacher here in town, who will definitely teach at our new Pioneer Village!

I’m just so profoundly proud of her, and our other local vendors we carry in-house … who make such quality products (that you can see in our photos & reels on our Pioneer Wood Company page). They are deeply passionate about what they do and who they’re crafting for … You.

Our NEW Pioneer Village mercantile will display and offer them to all our visitors from surrounding towns ❤️🎁

Thank YOU - everyone - for your continued support, encouragement, comments, prayers, honking by our new build, and coming shopping all our products to keep them and us going. 🎁

The original location (until the end of October) is 125 Maldonado Lane on 87 - the red Antiques building between HP Safety and Wilco) Tuesday-Saturday 10-6

The NEW location is 8915 Hwy 87 west - 7 days a week

Time to pick up our TEEPEE POLES. Our LV Village is getting closer!

I’ve told all of you through video after video (feel free to click on “reels” and watch ‘em) that right after opening La Vernia’s PIONEER VILLAGE in October, we dive into PHASE 2 full-on … which includes our historical dining room (like George Washington’s dining room) with outdoor open-fire pioneer kitchen and teepee.

For 23 years we’ve taken our daughters to Ruidoso New Mexico to watch Chuckwagon cooking festivals and partake of Apache cooking. We had to bring elements of it all home with us and share them.

We are planning a FULL AGENDA of UNIQUE & FACTUAL - authentic historical meals dating back to the 1800s … and even George Washington’s dinners served by his chef to dignitaries, and The First Thanksgiving, Mescalero Apache meals served around the teepee this winter (in honor of La Vernia’s ALFRED, our Apache woodworker we can’t live without and call him family), and far far far more. GOURMET cooking - 5-course meals - cooked OUTSIDE … while you roam around with glasses of Hill Country Cider House cider or Bending Branch Winery wines crafted just for us, or Cactus Land Brewing Co. beers, or Old Barrel Tea Company in-hand while watching us cook, eating fire-cooked appetizers, roaming the Merc, enjoying the grounds etc under gas lanterns and twinkling lights, and then gathering into the historical dining room filled with 1800s candlelight, to soak in and immerse yourself in authentic history. (Thank you to Sutherland Springs /La Vernia’s Polley Mansion aka Whitehall for your INCREDIBLE life-dedication to maintaining and improving our area’s history, and for your inspiration with caring for the Polley’s log cabin kitchen & mansion dining room that has stolen our hearts).

Now - it’s time to pull back the curtain of Steve’s and my HOME to the enormous public who’s following us, because you like what we’re offering YOU. We want to offer you MORE.

Here’s a video I made (and WEPT through, missing these days with every cell of my body) of events Steve Bradbury and I hosted and catered at our own home and backyard (11 acres) over 10 years. We even removed all furniture from our own living room to bring in tables and chairs to seat over 30 people to cook Grace Bible Church staff a 5-course Downton Abbey-style dinner, using recipes we’ll make FOR YOU as well. Actually, this dinner changed my life. This was what triggered my antiques business

This Fall & Winter Pioneer Wood Company is bringing you tons of unique historical-inspired experiences, and Steve and I can hardly breathe - from the eager anticipation we’re going through … looking so forward to THAT milestone - of welcoming you, and ENVELOPING YOU IN UNIQUE FUN - our style

La Vernia’s all-natural biochemist Tiffany, of Simply Tiff’s wellness products - was featured on SA Live tv show a few days ago - AGAIN - and HAD A BIRTHDAY! (We just restocked her products again.)

I’m personally profoundly thankful to her and her cellular knowledge for HEALING ME of my 20 years of full-body paralysis-episodes, walking sideways and backwards, brain hog, inability to speak for lapses of time, IBS, and far more. Because of her I’m finally driving again after 5 long years of not being behind the wheel, and have my life back. My neurologist and rheumatologist couldn’t help me, and Mayo Clinic refused to see me! But she did.

She spent years in pharm and medical world, and still works alongside physicians to help clients all-naturally.

Tiffany - you’re also a stunning human being inside and outside - who genuinely cares about every human and dedicates your life to being total healing and help to whomever you can. I’m honored to know you and call you my friend

Her pruducts (including many not pictured here, like elderberry syrup, etc) are at our Pioneer Wood Company mercantile [currently] at 125 Maldonado Lane on 87 (the red Antiques building between HP Safety and Wilco) - Tuesday-Saturday 10-6 (soon to be at 8915 hwy 87)

For a consultation with her, go to her Simply Tiffs website and click the link. Best money you’ll ever spend

A trailer of 200yr settler-beams sent to Wimberley. (*The beams on porch are NOT our wood) We split most of these beams to be used as RAFTERS on ceilings inside the home . The texture on these is - as usual - beautiful

We’re La Vernia’s Pioneer Wood Company - passing along the hand hewn (axed) beams made in the late 1700s thru mid-1800s, before wood mills were used.

See our website gallery for more pics.
Call or text us at 830-484-5000 for inquiries.
To see the beam warehouse, you *must have an appointment - since you’ll need the gate to be opened for you, and a guided tour with explanations and assistance 👍

Aside from building the Village in La Vernia on 87, we’ve been fulfilling client beam orders every day. In fact, today is Sunday and Steve and I have been at the warehouse most of the day finishing up orders for tomorrows pick up, and later today we’ll go meet a client in Wimberley.

Friday afternoon I left the Village-site to give 4 different out of town clients tours of the beam warehouse … to fulfill a few orders you see in these pics. Canyon Lake, Three Rivers; and even up to 3 hours away. Other projects from yesterday and this week left without me managing to get pics.

I LOVE seeing customers find “their” beams that meet their hopes; you can see it in their faces. Some love mortise pockets (the rectangular “holes” with tenons or “trenails” (hand whittled tree nails made by the farmers in the late 1700s-mid-1800s), while some want mainly the hand hewn texture. Generally there’s a perfect beam for everyone, and it’s a fun treasure-quest for me to take people on.

We are actively fulfilling beam orders daily. If you’re wanting a mantel for the upcoming holidays or need beams for any reason, call or text us at 830-484-5000 and Carrie can assist you. Or TEXT me at 210-863-1039. An appt is needed because the warehouse requires a certain tour and explanations (the beams are NOT at our mercantile on Maldonado any longer). I can give you to the Grand Tour of Beam Paradise if you shoot me (Gretchen) a text. 👍 We’re in La Vernia.
