This used to be a useless wall with a tiny niche.

Now it’s one of my favorite elements in the space.

I kept the inside very minimal, a few books, some sculptural pieces, nothing too busy.

It lets the materials and lighting do their magic.

Small kitchen can be functional too. Most kitchens you see on social media are large. Big islands, endless cabinetry, and plenty of space. But many homes don’t have that.

This kitchen originally had very limited storage and a layout that didn’t fully use the space. For a smaller kitchen, everyday use is frustrating.

Instead of expanding the footprint, we focused on design.

We reworked the cabinetry to use full wall height, added tall storage, and planned every cabinet with intention. The goal was not just to make it look better, but to make it function better.

The result is a kitchen that feels lighter, more balanced, and significantly more usable.

Storage in this space more than tripled without increasing the kitchen’s size.

Good design isn’t about square footage.

Japandi style is a beautiful blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality. This design style is still very new in Orange County, CA, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to implement it in my recent kitchen design.

What is Japandi? - Japandi, is a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design principles emphasizing clean lines, neutral colors, and natural materials. This style combines the best of both worlds:
- Japanese Influence - minimalistic approach, focusing on simplicity and a connection to nature.
- Scandinavian Influence - functional design, cozy elements, and a light, airy feel.
- Japandi interiors are timeless and can adapt to changing trends without losing appeal.
- The minimalist approach creates a serene environment for relaxation and mindfulness.
- Japandi design focuses on natural materials like wood, bamboo, and linen and promotes an eco-friendly lifestyle.
