✨So many customers have asked, “How do I choose antiques for the store?”. Well Lisa and I went to visit my friend Sabrina, owner of the amazing Vinteige antiques in Walnut Creek..so here are a few of my general tips for your next shopping treasure hunt! ✨
1.) MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is it a fine object, is it atheistically beautiful to YOU?!? I want to be surrounded by beautiful objects in my home and store, pick what you love!
2.) Go to a reputable store or dealer (like Vinteige).
3.) Look for pieces in excellent condition. No chips or cracks. TIP: Run your finger around the rim to check for nicks in glassware and ceramics.
4.) Check the color and quality. Is it too warn or faded? No damage and a complete set!
5.) What is your taste, what colors, styles or era appeals to you?
6.) Don’t forget to look in the cabinets at shops. Sometimes the best stuff is hiding on the nooks and crannies.
7.) You don’t have to spend a fortune, some of my favorite finds are just pretty, but also functional so you will actually use it!
8.) Think about how and where you will use it in your house.
9.) Glassware, cocktail accessories on a bar cart are a fun way to add a vintage look to your dining or living room.
10.) Many and antiques pieces have a “stamp” or inscribed information somewhere on them that can give you a clue as to where it’s from, its make and age. TIP: There are several good identifying apps now. The better ones you have to pay for, but if you do a lot of antiquing, it may be worth it. They are not 100% accurate, but can give you a ballpark idea of the provenance and price range of an objects value. 🫶🏽
