Today we celebrate the birthday of the woman who started it all — Shanon Materio, Founder and President of McMow Art Glass.
But those titles only begin to tell her story.
Shanon is our creative force, our Energizer Bunny, and our North Star. She is the ideas person, the problem solver, the cheerleader, the teacher, the artist and, more often than not, the one reminding all of us that there is always a way to make something extraordinary happen.
Nearly 50 years ago, Shanon turned a passion for glass and an entrepreneurial spirit into what would become McMow Art Glass. Along the way, she and Phil built far more than a business. They built a family, a community of artists and craftspeople, and a legacy rooted in creativity, hard work, generosity and a genuine love for what they do.
Her fingerprints are on so much of what makes McMow special — not simply in the beautiful glass that has left our studio over the decades, but in the people she has encouraged, the artists she has helped train, the customers who have become friends, and the community she has always believed in giving back to.
Anyone who knows Shanon knows that slowing down isn’t exactly her specialty. She is always dreaming up the next project, solving the next challenge, encouraging the next big idea and bringing an energy that keeps all of us moving forward.
Most importantly, she is the heart of our family and the heart of McMow.
Happy Birthday, Shanon! Thank you for dreaming big, working hard, loving fiercely and showing all of us what it means to build something that lasts. We love you — and we can’t wait to see what you dream up next. ❤️
