Madder seed is very interesting. The seeds are kind of donut shaped, and sometimes you get all this weirdo mold like stuff growing. I first saw this kind of mold growing from purchased seed so now when it happens with my homegrown seed, it doesn’t phase me. I’ve learned it’s completely harmless and when the madder comes out of the germination box, it goes away pretty quickly once exposed to the sunlight and ventilation in the greenhouse.

And what does a filled up birdfeeder have to do with Natural Dyeing you may ask?
It means all the birds that enjoy living on a certified organic natural dye plant nursery & farm are in cahoots.
If the birdfeeder is empty, there is a red bellied woodpecker that will sit at the far end of the gutter and drum on it until I come out and see what’s going on. For some reason I never grasp what that sound is right off the top.
Of course I follow the sound and see the bird. Then I look at the birdfeeder. The birdfeeder is invariably empty.
as soon as it is filled, the Jays come to grab their peanuts the doves come just to sit in it and eat, the finches come to sit in it and eat, tufted tit mouse, chickadee, dark eyed Junko, Cardinals-they pretty much all show up.
I guess they pretty much have me trained 😂😂😂
