On Feb. 10, I posted pictures of one of our Tortoise Shell Collection papers in the middle of the 7-8 layer process required to create the depth and richness we want in the finished papers.
Today, I am posting pictures of the final product - now ready to be packed and shipped to our client and to be installed as one of the wall coverings in their Texas home. This is Tortoise Shell Collection / Color: Pigeon's Blood. Handmade paper sheets, each tinted by hand, one layer at a time - 8 layers in all. Deep, rich, glowing and polished.

CANNON/BULLOCK's Marseille Collection / Color: St. Julien.

14 colors offered. Highly textured handmade paper. Each sheet is hand brush-splattered with one of fourteen tint colors to suggest the saltwater splashed and worn limestone blocks in the ancient walls and structures of France's Second City, Marseille, on the Mediterranean Sea. Soft, subtle, and welcoming.

It's a beautiful day in our Studio today - clear and sunny, albeit cold - on Whidbey Island. We reached the halfway mark with layer 4 of 7-8 layers of color tints to achieve the rich, full, deep and dark red we want for our 'Pigeon's Blood' papers in our Tortoise Shell Collection (14 colors in all). On the racks drying now.

I'll post more pictures when we complete this order. Then it will dry thoroughly and be shipped to Austin, Texas.
Next in line: nearly 2000 sheets of 'Amber', also from our Tortoise Shell Collection, which will cover a coffered ceiling at a private club in Florida. We will be 'all aglow' in the Studio for weeks!

Talia Ge**er in the David Sutherland Showroom in Houston sent me her photograph of the new CANNON/BULLOCK walls recently installed there. From our 'Saltwater Collection'. These handmade papers are also hand color tinted and then covered with a heavy layer of rock salt. After drying, each sheet is hand brushed revealing a unique finish one must see and feel. I was delighted to see the new installation and meet the wonderful Houston Team at David Sutherland. Thanks to each of you for such a warm welcome and for your enthusiasm. Color: Sea of Japan.

Our Houston clients will be able to see walls installed with the Saltwater Collection papers, color: Sea of Japan very shortly at our 'home base' there, The David Sutherland Showroom. Sea of Japan has a soft, warm gray base tone, beneath several layers of color washes and a bed of salt. When the salt is hand brushed off of the papers, they leave 'pits' where the pigment has been lifted and a contrast between the semi-gloss of the gray surface and the matte finish of the 'salt pits' create a visual textural depth and bring 'the ocean's edge into a room.

This week's agenda: Painting several hundred sheets of 'Amber' from our Tortoise Shell Collection for a residential rare manuscripts library in Kentucky. These are three of the seven steps involved - all in our studio on Whidbey Island, all hand painted and on handmade paper sheets.
