A mystery buyer has emerged for Bally's $1.1 billion development surrounding the A's ballpark on the Strip β and the deal has to happen before Thursday.
The buyer wants Bally's rights to 26 acres of the old Tropicana site. No one is saying who it is... but we have some theories.
If nothing is signed before Thursday's Stadium Authority meeting, Bally's says it will build Phase 1 itself: a three-level parking structure on the northwest corner topped by a plaza with retail, dining and the main entrance to the ballpark.
The hotel tower, casino and 2,500-seat theater come later. Whenever "later" is.
Here's the part Bally's isn't leading with: the company is also building a $4 billion resort in New York and another in Chicago. It told the SEC on Aug. 14 that it may need to raise capital.
Selling Vegas would fund New York very nicely.
Stadium Authority chair Steve Hill has asked all parties to show up Thursday with a real plan, noting that state law requires a world-class stadium.
The current plan for the front door of Las Vegas baseball is a parking garage with a food court on the roof.
DISCLAIMER: there is no definitive proof Vital Vegas is the mystery buyer.
