AITA for telling my future SIL I won’t be an uncle to their child?

I was legally adopted by my aunt and uncle when I was six years old. My uncle is the brother of my biological mother. She had some ongoing drug problems, was in and out of jail for a while, and eventually gave up her parental rights to me.

My adopted parents already had a son, who is technically my biological cousin. When I went to live with them, he was jealous of me. He was probably used to being an only child and didn't like sharing his parents' attention with a new kid.

He would frequently say mean things to me when our parents weren't around to hear him. For example, he'd tell me that my "real parents" didn't want me. He also always told me I wasn't really his brother. He never introduced me as his brother to any of his friends in school.

The bullying got so bad over the years that our parents signed us all up for family therapy. They were hoping the counselor would help fix our relationship. It didn't work out at all. The dynamic actually got worse when we reached high school.

We pretty much lost contact when he left for college and moved away. Nowadays, I only see him occasionally at major family events, anniversaries, and Christmas. We don't speak outside of those gatherings.

Well, a few months ago he decided to reach out to me. He said he wanted to tell me that his fiancée was pregnant. He explained that the prospect of being a father made him think back to our childhood and how poorly he treated me.

He told me he wanted to formally apologize for his past behavior. I told him I wasn't interested in building a relationship given our troubled history. I kept the conversation brief and just wished him the best with his new family.

Last week I saw him and his fiancée at our parents' house for our mom's birthday. She met me in the kitchen and struck up a friendly conversation. She smiled and said something along

AITA for answering my dad honestly when he asked if I would want to move out with my sister?

My dad got married four years ago, bringing Jess and her two kids into our home. Before that, it was just dad, my older sister Delaney, and me. We didn't know our mom since she passed away when I was just a newborn baby.

It wasn't an easy transition when they first moved in with us. Shortly after, the pandemic hit and we were all locked down together in a tight space. The house felt tense and awkward as we tried to navigate this new dynamic.

Delaney and I spent most of our time playing video games in our room to pass the hours. Dad wasn't happy about this and constantly asked why we didn't include his stepkids Bella and Robbie. Delaney told him we needed our sister time and that wouldn't change just because he got married again.

Bella wanted to hang out with Delaney, but she constantly tried to push me toward Robbie instead. Delaney couldn't stand that selfish behavior and refused to play along with her demands. They've been feuding ever since that lockdown started.

Things got drastically worse over the past year despite dad and Jess trying family therapy. Dad pulled Delaney aside multiple times, begging her to put more effort into bonding. She flat out told him she didn't want to make a blended family work with them.

Dad couldn't believe her at first, but the constant fighting became impossible to ignore. Recently, Bella announced she was exhausted from living with us because she felt rejected. She claimed she thought she was getting a genuine family, but Delaney wouldn't accept her.

Dad finally sat Delaney down to ask if she could at least tolerate the situation enough to maintain peace. She bluntly replied that basic tolerance was the most she could ever offer. Because of her honesty, dad decided it's best if Delaney goes to live with our grandparents.

Then, dad and Jess asked me if I'd rather stay in the family house or move out with Delaney. I didn't want to leave dad, but I can't imagine

AITA for calling out my mom for years of guilt trips and pressure to make things equal between me and my half sister?

My parents' relationship ended when I was four, and my brother was just one. My mom treated my dad pretty terribly afterward. She'd call him a thug because of his appearance and tried to chase him off by suing for child support, even though they shared equal parenting time.

She eventually got married when I was seven, and within a few months, she had my half-sister. This is exactly where things started to get stressful for my brother and me. My mom and her new husband, who I don't and won't call my stepdad, weren't doing as great financially as they expected.

I guess my mom got fired, and when she found a new job, it was a major demotion. Her husband's company also lost a lot of money and started paying him less. Because of this, she'd go back to court to ask for child support from my dad and actually got it.

But it didn't make the financial difference she expected, so she started asking my dad to buy gifts for my half-sister's birthday and for Christmas. My dad told her he bought things for his own kids, but he wasn't going to buy presents for a child she had with someone else. Mom would then tell my brother and me that we needed to ask our dad for gifts for our half-sister.

We'd always say no, and she'd immediately start guilt-tripping us about it. She'd say we're the big siblings, we have it way better, and if we love our half-sister, we should want her to have equal stuff. It didn't stop there, either.

Even though my dad never sent anything for my half-sister, my mom started thinking he should be willing to buy her clothes, school supplies, and little treats. She knew he did that for us at his house, so she thought he owed her kid the same. Mom was really hard on my brother and me because we wouldn't ask him.

My brother told her once that dad shouldn't have to pay when our half-sister already has

AITA for decline my Step Dad's call when they couldn't find me at my Step Brother's wedding?

I attended my stepbrother's wedding a few days ago, and I'm still trying to process what happened. He and his new wife had a beautiful ceremony, and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. My mum and his dad have been together for over ten years now, so it's a long-standing blended family.

During the reception, they took family photos and included my mum, which meant so much to her. They didn't ask me to be in any of the pictures, though, which stung. I felt a bit hurt, but it's their special day, so I wouldn't dream of complaining about it to anyone there.

Later in the evening, I was sitting nearby when my stepdad started chatting with the bride's mother. She mentioned how lovely it is to have my stepbrother in the family and that she now has four children. Then, my stepdad replied that he feels the exact same way.

He proudly stated that he has four children, specifically naming his two sons and their wives. He didn't include me in that count at all, and it felt like a sharp pain in my chest. You see, I've had a lot of issues with father figures in my life.

My biological father left when I was two years old, and he was abusive before he walked out. Then, another man my mum dated told me to my face that he didn't want to be my father. Hearing my stepdad exclude me brought all those old wounds right back to the surface.

My mum noticed my reaction and kept badgering me until I admitted I'd overheard his comment. She agreed that he hadn't been thinking, but her comforting tone just made the tears start falling. I couldn't hold it back anymore, so I told her I was going outside for some fresh air.

I walked a short distance away and found a small playpark in eyesight of the hotel. I sat on a swing for a while, trying to calm myself down and finally stop crying. While I was sitting

AITA(30F) for not wanting hand me down baby clothes for my kid

My husband and I are expecting a daughter in January. It should be a joyous time, but my younger sister has been acting strange about our child. She got pregnant when she was sixteen, which was scary at first but soon became something everyone was anticipating.

Sadly, her baby was a stillborn, and it broke our hearts. My sister never recovered from that loss and she kept all the baby clothes they had purchased. Recently, she has been asking to give me those old clothes, and I seriously considered it.

My perspective changed when she suggested we name our daughter after her baby. She's been adamant about babysitting frequently and even wants to move closer to us to help. I'm finding this behavior creepy, as it feels like she wants to experience having the child she never got to raise.

Her husband actually asked me not to accept the clothing because he thinks she's trying to pretend our daughter is theirs. He has tried his best to bring her back down to earth, but his efforts haven't worked at all. This afternoon, she texted to ask if I wanted her to drop off the items.

I politely declined, but she ignored me and dropped them off at my house anyway. I immediately texted her husband, and he drove over to pick them up. When she found out what happened, she threw a loud tantrum and started screaming.

She told me I'm being picky because the clothes are slightly odd. She also claimed my pride and ego are just too big for me to accept her help. She said she'd drop them off again, but I warned her I'd throw them straight into the trash if she did.

She ignored my warning and has been demanding that I just take the clothes. Later on, my brother-in-law called me with an important update about the whole situation. He told me he finally spoke to my sister about how unhealthy her behavior has become.

He explained to her that she needs to see a professional to

AITAH for wanting a bit of space from my daughter after I discovered she isn't mine biologically?

I'm forty years old, and my daughter recently turned sixteen. I've been divorced from her mother since the girl was only about a year old. We've always shared a wonderful relationship, and I never had a single reason to doubt that she was mine.

A few weeks ago, her mother made a careless comment and let it slip that she might not be my biological child. We immediately took a DNA test, and it confirmed that we aren't related at all. I drove over to confront my ex about this revelation, and she just broke down in tears on the spot.

She finally confessed that back when we were exclusively dating, she went on a night out with her coworkers. She ended up spending the night with a guy she worked alongside at the time. She tried to claim she was drugged, saying she woke up in his bed and couldn't remember a thing.

She admitted she panicked and feared how I'd react if I knew the truth. She decided to ignore the whole incident and just hoped the baby was mine because she felt the child looked like me. It turns out the biological father is a French man who's currently married with his own kids.

I vaguely remember the guy from when my ex and I were still together. I didn't like him back then because he always seemed somewhat sleazy and inappropriate. I just put his behavior down to cultural differences, but now it all makes a lot more sense.

This whole ordeal has messed me up in ways I can't even begin to describe. It's also having a profound impact on my daughter, who is struggling to process the news. The situation is giving me some dark thoughts, and I'm finding it hard to cope with everyday life.

Because of my mental state, I just want to take a bit of time to myself and go no contact for a short period. I'm not doing this to punish my daughter or be cruel to her in any shape or

Am I being too sensitive about someone touching my hair despite telling them not to?

I'm an 18-year-old girl, and we had a family gathering at my house today. Everything was fine until it was time for dinner to be served. I've got an uncle who's always been very affectionate with the kids in our family.

My cousins and I are pretty much habituated to his behavior since we grew up with it. We were all sitting on the sofa waiting for our food. Suddenly, he came over and sat right next to me.

He asked if he could give me a kiss on the head. It wasn't in a weird way, just his usual affectionate style, but I still said no. I really didn't want him messing up my hair since I'd spent ages getting it ready.

Besides that, it was dinner time, and I just didn't want anyone bothering me right then. He kept insisting for a little while, trying to wear me down. Eventually, he backed off and gave up on the kiss, so I thought we were good.

But then he placed his arm right behind me on the back of the sofa. His hand was resting closely to my butt, and he might've even brushed it accidentally. I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I figured it was just an innocent mistake.

He hasn't ever touched me or anyone else inappropriately before, so I didn't want to jump to conclusions. I brushed it off and went to grab my plate so I could eat my meal. Things got much worse after I finished eating and was heading back.

I'd just wrapped up a conversation with my dad when my uncle caught up to me. He grabbed both of my hands and gripped them super tightly. I'm not very strong physically, and I also struggle with wrist pains.

He held on so hard that I've actually still got his finger marks left on my skin. While holding me in this grip, he asked again if he could kiss me. I repeated my answer, telling him no, and specifically asked him not to touch my hair.

AITA for not inviting my dad's girlfriend wedding dress shopping with me and my sisters?

My mother passed away a bit over five years ago and it hasn't been an easy time for our family to heal. My dad started seeing someone new about three years ago and her name is Cheryl. I haven't spent much time with her, but she seems okay overall from what I gather.

My two younger sisters live with them now and interact with her quite frequently. They're seventeen and nineteen, so they usually spend their summers at the house. I don't see Cheryl often since I moved out, so we aren't exactly close to each other.

I recently got engaged to my partner and I'm currently planning my upcoming wedding. My dad told me it'd be a great idea to invite Cheryl wedding dress shopping to make her feel included. He mentioned she'd love to join us for this special occasion in my life.

I didn't want her there because I envisioned this as a special bonding day for just my sisters and me. I told my dad I'd rather keep it small and intimate for our own comfort. Initially, he took it well and I thought that'd be the end of the discussion.

On the morning of the scheduled shopping trip, I drove over to pick up my sisters. I was surprised to see Cheryl all dressed and ready to go with us. She told me she wanted to treat us afterward, so she thought she'd tag along anyway.

My dad wasn't home at the time, so I had to handle the awkward situation myself. I politely reminded Cheryl that I still just wanted to do this with my sisters. She promised she'd be quiet and I'd hardly notice she was even sitting there.

I stood my ground against her pushiness and told her my answer was still no. Apparently, she started crying about it when my dad finally returned to the house later. He was furious with me for not giving in when she was already dressed and prepared to go.

We got into a huge argument when he called

AITA for paying a cleaner so I don't have to do chores but expecting my partner and his teenage son to clean up after themselves?

I'm a 32-year-old full-time vet and a single mom to an 11-year-old daughter. We share our home with two dogs, a rescue cat, and three rescued chickens. Life is busy, so I pay a cleaner to come once a week — that's the only way I can actually spend evenings with my daughter or do volunteer work at our local shelter.

My partner of four years and his 17-year-old son asked to move into my four-bedroom house so he could save a deposit. I said yes. They agreed to clean up after themselves, and my partner started contributing to shared expenses like food and electricity. I thought we'd found a fair arrangement.

But they don't hold up their end. My daughter has been picking up the slack on chores that aren't hers to do, and my cleaner has been charging me for extra time. Before they moved in, she'd come for two hours every Monday. Now she's here five to six hours every single week.

I brought it up with my partner and he brushed me off, saying he'd talk to his son about making more effort. I didn't push it. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited. I shouldn't have waited.

This past Monday, my cleaner was here for seven hours. Seven. I can't just keep absorbing that cost on top of everything else I'm already carrying. I told my partner that either they start cleaning up properly and he pays for any cleaner time beyond the original two hours, or he needs to move out.

He threw a fit. He said he didn't have time to clean — even though he works half the hours I do. Then he said that because I pay a cleaner I'm too lazy to clean myself, so why should he bother. I won't pretend that one didn't sting.

What made it worse was what he said next. He told me his son is a boy, so it's natural for him not to clean or do chores the way my daughter does. I'm

AITA for not letting my daughter date a boy from the same neighborhood that I’m from?

Am I wrong for not letting my daughter date a boy from the same gang I was in even though I have the same tattoos?

I'm 36M. I grew up in a rough neighbourhood and I was in a gang. I spent six years in prison on a fifteen-year sentence. I got out early because the prosecution made errors that killed the rest of my time. I've got a lot of tattoos from that life. Prison ink and gang ink. It's all over me and it's not going anywhere.

I've got a fifteen-year-old daughter. Her name's Maria. Her mum and I had her when we were 20. Right before I went inside. Maria lives with me most of the time. Her mum's around but Maria chooses to stay with me.

She told me a few weeks back she'd started seeing a boy. I said I was fine with her dating but I wanted to meet him first. She agreed. She brought him over the other day.

The second he walked in I clocked his tattoos. Same gang I was in. Same neighbourhood. Same ink I've got on my own arms. I didn't say anything while he was there. I was polite. I shook his hand. I asked him about school. I offered him a drink. He seemed like a decent enough kid on the surface but I know what those tattoos mean. I know what that life is.

When he left I told Maria she wasn't seeing him anymore. She asked me why. I told her I saw his tattoos and I knew exactly where he was from and what he was involved in. I said I didn't want her anywhere near that life. She wasn't seeing him again.

She went off on me. She said I was a hypocrite. She said I've got the same tattoos he does. She said I came from the same life and I had no right to stop her from seeing him when I lived that exact life myself. I told her that's exactly why I was
