It is Fire Prevention Week, and there is a line on every commercial flooring spec that most people scroll past.
Flooring is not just a finish. In corridors and exit paths, it is part of the life safety system. Critical radiant flux testing measures how a floor covering responds when fire is already in the room, and smoke density testing measures what that material puts into the air while people are still trying to get out. Those ratings are why a product that works beautifully in a unit may not be approved for the corridor outside it.
When we review a spec, we are checking those numbers against the occupancy and the code before anything gets ordered. It is the least glamorous part of the submittal and the one that matters most at two in the morning.
Thank you to the fire service professionals who hold the rest of us to that standard.

Manufacturing Day falls in the middle of Careers in Construction Month, and that is not a coincidence.
Every floor we install starts on a production line somewhere. Someone ran that line. Someone did the quality check. Then it ships, and someone on our crew sets it. Two different trades, same skilled workforce problem, same shortage.
Both industries are hiring, both pay well, and neither requires a four-year degree to get started.
If you have ever walked a plant floor or watched a crew lay out a lobby, you know this work takes real skill. Worth telling the next generation that.

October is Careers in Construction Month, so we want to point at the people who actually do the work.

Every finished floor you walk across started with a crew on their knees. Layout, substrate prep, moisture testing, pattern matching, transitions, punch. The work is physical and precise at the same time, and the difference between an installer with five years in and one with twenty shows up in every seam.

Our installers are the reason clients call us back. Not our marketing, not our pricing. The craft.

To everyone in the trades building the Valley right now: this month is for you. And to anyone considering the path, it is a real career with real advancement, and the industry needs you.
