A flat panel is just the beginning. The curve of a shoulder, the turn of a heel, the taper of a sleeve: that's all shaping, and it's the difference between fabric that hangs and fabric that fits.

On Thursday, June 11th at 7:30 PM EDT, our FREE Knitting Sheeptorial: Shaping Up! digs into the increases, decreases, and turns that give your knitting true dimension, why some sit cleaner than others, and a few favorites along the way (fisherman's rib, anyone?).

All levels welcome, replay included. And yes, this one lays the groundwork for a deeper workshop coming in August. 😉

Ever made something that came out stiff and boxy when you wanted soft and curved? That's not your hook, that's shaping.

On Thursday, June 11th at 6:30 PM EDT, our FREE Crochet Sheeptorial is all about Shaping Up!

How a few well-placed increases and decreases give your crochet real dimension, and how to keep every shaping line smooth (hello, invisible decrease!). We'll talk extended single crochet, building a dome, and shaping with purpose.

All levels welcome, and the replay comes to you afterward. Consider it your warm-up for something bigger we've got cooking in August. 😉

Two crafts. Two ways to reach for more.
This week on Texture Twins: elongated stitches. On the left, knitting: knit one below, reaching into the row below and dropping two loops to build that squishy reversible Fisherman's Rib. On the right, crochet: extended single crochet, one extra pull through for a taller, denser, more structured stitch.

Both crafts taking their most basic stitch and reaching deeper to build something richer. Completely different technique, same instinct.

Catch both videos this week for the full demos, including why Fisherman's Rib is not technically brioche and why ESC will change your row gauge. And both techniques become real projects: a Fisherman's Rib mitt and a crochet sock, as free patterns at my Shaping Sheeptorial on June 11.

This looks like brioche. It feels like brioche. It is not brioche. And that one difference is what we are talking about today.

In today's Knitting Corner I am showing you knit one below : K1b - the stitch that reaches into the row below, drops two loops at once, and builds into that squishy reversible fabric with no yarn overs in sight. You will be knitting P1b on the way back, because true fisherman's rib cushions both faces.

Watch for the secret most people miss: the little loop that forms when you drop both stitches is not a mistake. It is the engine of the whole fabric. Each stitch creates the next one.

Demoing in Rowan Baby Cashsoft Worsted on 5mm for nice big visible stitches, and holding up a tighter version in Juniper Moon Cotton Merino on 4mm that is becoming a pair of fingerless mitts.

Want the full mitt pattern? It is one of the free patterns I am giving away at my Shaping Sheeptorial on June 11. Save the date. 😄

One extra step. One extra pull through. Completely different stitch.

In today's Crochet Corner I am showing you the extended single crochet: the ESC. One tiny chain added at the base of a regular single crochet and suddenly you have a taller, denser, more structured stitch that sits beautifully between a SC and an HDC.

This is the exact stitch I use for the heel flap of a crochet sock: that extra density makes a thicker, more cushioned, more durable heel.

Demoing in Círculo Sweet on a 4mm hook. Plus the gauge tip that will save your rows if you ever substitute ESC into a SC pattern.

Want the full crochet sock pattern? It is one of the free patterns I am giving away at my Shaping Sheeptorial on June 11. Save the date. 😄

Have you been picking up some sock techniques from our Knitting Corner and Crochet Corner videos? It might be time to put them to work!

One of the trickiest parts of making socks is getting both of them to match! These kits have already solved that problem for you. Each one comes with two pre-wound cakes or skeins that start at the exact same point in the color sequence, so your socks stripe identically every time.

We've got four options to choose from:
🧶 Círculo Let It Sock ($17): cotton/elastane sport weight, great for warm weather feet, works for knitting AND crochet (QR code to 1 sock and 1 crochet pattern)- https://www.sheepthrillsknitting.com/shop/c/p/Let-It-Sock-Circulo-x89172002.htm
🧶 Círculo Lucky Feet ($18): hand-painted superwash merino/polyamide, soft and durable, also knit or crochet friendly - https://www.sheepthrillsknitting.com/shop/c/p/Lucky-Feet-Circulo-x81198841.htm
🧶 Urth Uneek Sock Kit ($27): self-striping hand-dyed merino/nylon fi*****ng weight, includes three patterns - https://www.sheepthrillsknitting.com/shop/c/p/Uneek-Sock-Kit-Urth-x34598541.htm
🧶 Urth Uneek Sock Kit Mini ($21): same gorgeous yarn, sized for kids' socks! https://www.sheepthrillsknitting.com/shop/c/p/Uneek-Sock-Kit-Mini-Urth-x78608013.htm

Shop all four at sheepthrillsknitting.com!

Two crafts. Two ways to subtract.

This week on Texture Twins: decreases. On the left, knitting, K2tog and SSK working as a pair, leaning toward each other to pull the fabric to a perfect symmetrical point. The same logic as every classic sock toe ever knitted.

On the right, crochet, SC2tog and the invisible decrease, shrinking the same circle we grew last week back down to a point. The same logic as every amigurumi head ever crocheted.

Same goal across both crafts: remove a stitch and control which way the fabric leans. Completely different technique to get there.

Did you catch both videos this week? Head back to the Knitting Corner and Crochet Corner posts for the full demos, including the SSK truth nobody tells you and the tension tip that makes invisible decreases actually work.

Last week we added stitches. This week we take them away. And the direction still matters.

In today's Knitting Corner I am showing you SSK and K2tog worked as a pair on a symmetrical point swatch: the exact same logic as the toe of a classic vanilla sock. SSK on the right side leans left toward the center. K2tog on the left side leans right toward the center. Together they pull the fabric to a perfect point.

I am also talking about SSK because there is more than one way to get to that left leaning decrease and they all work. We are going deep on every method in the upcoming Sheeptorial but today you get the foundation.

Working in Juniper Moon Herriot. Watch to the end.

Last week this circle grew. This week we shrink it. And there are three ways to do it: each one more invisible than the last.

In today's Crochet Corner I am showing you the standard SC2tog and the truly invisible decrease worked on the same circle from Episode 1. The truly invisible uses one front loop and one back loop: a diagonal hook placement that makes the decrease almost completely disappear into the fabric.

I am also mentioning a third version using both front loops: easier to learn, slightly different result. We are going deep on all three in the upcoming Sheeptorial including exactly when and where each one belongs.

Plus the yarn weight tip that completely changes how these stitches look, and why I will never attempt an invisible decrease in mohair again. 😄

Working in Juniper Moon Cotton Merino in the round. Watch to the end.
