My training and experience includes an associate degree in interior design 2001, and ten years of hands on design through the two firms I have worked for and my own business which I opened in 2005. Have you ever wondered why some tables and shelves look beautifully styled while others feel like something is missing? Here are two of my favorite decorating tips! 🏡

Tip #1: Group items in odd numbers! The rule of 3s, 5s, and even 7s can help create a more natural, balanced, and visually interesting display. Odd-numbered groupings tend to feel more organic and less structured, making your vignettes look thoughtfully put together.

Tip #2: MIX YOUR TEXTURES! 🤍 This is where the magic happens! Try combining stone, picture frames, candles, silver, glass, wood, and other beautiful materials. When you mix different textures and finishes, you create depth, contrast, and personality.

Sometimes, when everything is the same color or made from the same material, a display can fall a little flat. It's those unexpected combinations that bring a space to life!

Remember, decorating isn't just about what you put on a table or shelf. It's about how you layer, combine, and arrange the pieces to create something beautiful and interesting.

🍂 A little fall refresh! 🍂

Last week, I had the opportunity to help another designer prepare a home for resale in Seaside, Florida.

When I first stepped into the home, the goal was to make it feel warm, inviting and ready to welcome vacationers—but we didn’t want it to feel overly staged or like we were starting from scratch.

We began by taking a look at the pieces the client already owned. There were some really beautiful items in the home, so instead of replacing everything, we worked with what was already there and added in a few other pieces where needed.

Little by little, the rooms started to come together. By layering textures, mixing in furniture and accessories, and rearranging the existing pieces, the home began to feel more polished, comfortable and cohesive.

What I loved most was seeing how a few thoughtful changes could completely transform the feeling of the space.

In the end, the home felt warm, cozy and welcoming—the kind of place where future buyers could imagine spending their vacations.

It was such a fun project and a great reminder that you don’t always have to start from scratch to create something beautiful. Sometimes, it’s about seeing the potential in what you already have and knowing what to add to bring it all together.

That’s what I love about design—making a space feel beautiful, personal and inviting, while working with what you already have. 🤍🌴

A busy week in Seaside! 🌊✨

Derek and I have been working alongside a designer friend of ours, helping transform this gorgeous home as it gets ready to hit the market! 🏡
