I can’t begin to tell you how many times someone has said to me “I can get that cheaper at _____” . So let’s talk about that shall we? Why is a queen size quilt at Walmart $30/$40 bucks, but I charge $100+ for an oversized throw quilt? Well, I’m not a machine, I’m a person taking time out of life to make this for you 100% by hand and that takes a long time. For example below is a panel I pieced tonight for a quilt I’m working on as well as 1/4 hand embroidered panels for the same quilt. The combined time I have just in these two pieces of the quilt is approximately 8 hrs. Alsoni hand tie every quilt which on its own can take 5 hrs. Is it tedious? Yes, is it time consuming? Yes, is it sometimes so frustrating that I want to throw everything thing out and blow up my sewing machine? Also yes, but is it worth it? In my opinion, yes it is because unlike a big box store, I can guarantee that every single stitch is up to my standard, every seam is solid, my hand embroidery won’t unravel on you and each of my knots is secure, if it’s not it gets ripped out and started again, if it’s so bad ripping and starting over won’t work, I go buy everything again and start all over. Is that a promise you’ll get from a retailer? I think not 😊
