First, For This Custom Home Modernization & Expansion We Improved Just The Main House In & Out So The Family Could Move In And Spend A Year Or Three Living And Loving And Figuring Out What’s Important To Them About Connecting The Home To The Existing Stylistically Mis-Matched Carriage House / Garage.

Second, We Came Back With A Swooping Curved Roof Design For A Connector Piece Of Indoor Space. This Roof Naturalized The Spread Of Our Use Of Tudor Swept Eaves (Curved Roofs) That Had Always Been Here. Here We Really Dramatized This One Big New Roof Swoop Brought Down To The Newly Created Low Point Between House And Carriage House. It Is A Focal Point Where You Can See The Sky Above The Rear Yard, You Can Walk Thru To The Rear Yard, And You Can Cross-Walk Indoors (Finally) To The Garage & Carriage House Expanded Living / Work From Home Second Floor Spaces (That Had Been Unfinished Attic Space.) Stylistically We Altered The Carriage House Dormers, Doors, Garage Doors & Roof Shapes To Match The Main House By Doing Thoughtful Exterior Shape Design One Would Have Hoped The Stand-Alone Carriage House / Garage Had Been Built With In The First Place.

In The End The Design Transformed A 1980s Half-Timbered Tudor And Its Stylistically Mis-Matched Stand-Alone Carriage House / Garage By Figuring Out How To Combine Them. Inside, A Tremendous Amount Of Interior Design Work Filled It With Light And Enabled Maintaining A Traditional & Homey Interior Life To Remain. On The Exterior We Made Modern Tudor Finish Choices To Reduce And Streamline The Half-Timbering, And To Replace The Rustic Medieval "Wattle And Daub" Stucco Of The 1980s With A Unifying Smooth Stucco Finish Throughout. We Emphasized Muted Exterior Colors, Simplicity And Minimalism To Literally Smooth Over The Many Complex Shapes That Were Put Together Here To Form One Family’s Now Large & Wonderful Compound For Living & Working From Home.
