Ugh, well. The inspections this week flagged something kinda major that had never come up before, so we weren’t able to get our CO and that means we can’t have folks in the shop this weekend. It’s a completely fair issue with the ceiling that just somehow didn’t get caught until the very last minute, and that we’re going to have to get a little creative to fix. So we have to put a pin in the in-person reopening, but we’re going to reopen checkout on the website. (And if you’re local and you happen to choose curbside pickup and you happen to come to complete that pickup during hours that we would be open if we were open, you can at least get a sneak peek!)
On a slightly more serious note, I’ve been trying to find a way to write about what the last few months have been from this side of things. There have been so many changes in the industry, and I’ve personally been doing a lot of soul searching about social media and whether it’s even possible to ethically engage with a tech machine that harvests content for AI that then causes material damage to our everyone who makes a living with their own creativity or benefits from the creativity of others. (That’s all of us, isn’t it?) And yet here I am, posting this to Instagram, because it’s the best way I know to get the word out. There’s no answer. Newsletter services have all become part of the evil tech empire, too.
(You know how sometimes when you’re working on one problem you get a flash of insight into another? Maybe we’ll figure out how to solve our current tech dystopia while trying to solve the ceiling. Or vice versa. Either would be an improvement.)
Anyway. If you need me I’ll be working on an army of carrier pigeons, I guess.
Speaking of owing an update on things, I’ve also been trying to figure out what to do for folks who have had gift cards they haven’t been able to spend while we were closed for SO much longer than expected. We’re going to be adding 50% to the balance of each gift card, up to $50 (so if your gift card should have $6 on it it will magically become $9, if it should have $50 it will magically become $75, if it should have $200 it will magically become $250.)
