NEW: has strengthened to a Category 2 Hurricane in the Gulf with winds of 100 mph. Landfall will occur Friday Night into early Saturday morning along the coast of Alabama / Florida Panhandle. Here’s the bottom line on Isaias and what's new as of 5 PM Thursday:

1 ) Isaias has been gradually getting stronger throughout the day. In fact, satellite just picked up on the first eye of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

2 ) Can't rule out a peak of Category 3, followed by some weakening towards landfall. That does NOT mean it will be a weak storm, it'll still have a lot of power. Hurricane Warnings and Storm Surge Warnings are both in effect.

3 ) I'm thinking landfall will be between Gulf Shores (AL) and Destin (FL) Friday evening. Don’t just focus on the center though. Impacts will be felt outside of the cone too.

4 ) State of Emergency has been declared for 25 Florida Counties, 40 Alabama Counties and All Counties in Georgia.

5 ) Pensacola International Airport will suspend commercial operations beginning Friday at 10 AM CDT. Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport is scheduled to close Thursday at 9 PM CDT.

6 ) Florida evacuation orders for Escambia (Zones A & B )Santa Rosa (Zones A & B ), Okaloosa (Zones A & B ), Walton (Zones A, B, C), Bay (Zones A & B ), Franklin (Mandatory evacuation for barrier islands, Alligator Point, Bald Point) and Wakulla (Coastal Zone A).

7 ) Alabama evacuation orders for tourists, visitors and other non-residents in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, areas of Baldwin County south of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and Dauphin Island.

8 ) Peak Wind: Hurricane-force gusts between 75 - 100 mph. Isolated 100+ mph possible in hardest hit areas. Power outages for many in the path of the storm.

9 ) Storm Surge: As high as 5 - 7 feet, especially near and east of the center...especially from Mobile Bay into the Florida Panhandle & Big Bend Region.

10 ) Rainfall: 3 - 7" on average, isolated 10"+. Potential for freshwater flooding.

11 ) Tornadoes: There will be a significant amount of spin and twist in the atmosphere, especially on the northern and eastern side of the storm. Make sure you have a way of instantly getting Tornado Warning alerts.

12 ) Hurricane preps need to be completed no later than Friday morning.

I'll be with you every step of the way with no hype, just the facts 24/7.

Hurricane season isn't over yet! 🌀

Although we've passed the historical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes remains through November 30.

Now is a good time to check that your hurricane shutters are ready if a storm approaches. Inspect the tracks for debris, check for visible damage, and make sure the shutters operate smoothly and lock securely.

For homeowners considering new hurricane protection, it's also important to plan ahead. Waiting until a storm is approaching can leave limited time for measurements, installation and preparation.
Stay informed, keep an eye on local weather forecasts, and make sure your hurricane preparedness plan is up to date.

Update: As of 2:00 PM Monday, the NHC has updated the chance for development to 80%.

A tropical disturbance in the Gulf now has a 70% chance of development over the next seven days as it moves toward the northern Gulf Coast. | Link to full story in the comments

TROPICAL UPDATE: Chances for a Tropical System in the Gulf this week continue to increase as of Monday. Next name is . Here's the latest and what to know:

1) NHC is following the uptick in model trends and has bumped their odds to now 70%. Google has been more aggressive, their odds are higher at 90% for a Tropical Storm. The traditional European Model is closer to 40% for a Tropical Storm.

2) Greatest landfall potential currently is from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle & Big Bend.

3) If there is indeed a landfall, timing would be as early as Friday (10/9) to as late as Monday (10/12). Most models indicate this weekend, Saturday or Sunday.

4) Biggest wild card right now is intensity if it develops. Models are all over the place from weak, sloppy tropical depression/storm to a hurricane. Very warm water and lower shear in the short-term would promote strengthening, but then as it lifts north/northeast greater shear + some dry air could limit strengthening or hurt it. So the current wide range in potential strength is because each model has a different take on how much wind shear/dry air there will be. All possibilities should be considered at this early stage.

5) This will be a rainmaker regardless of development with a flood threat in hardest hit areas of the Northern Gulf Coast in the days ahead.

I'll continue to keep you updated with no hype, just the facts. Thanks everyone!
