Starting to block in the last, and my favorite, parts of the second horse. There will still be a great deal of refining to do on the head and neck, and throughout both horses, but that will happen as the background develops and the horses interact with those new elements. I have spent the last couple of weeks watching the skies and fields for incorporating into the feel I am after. Still a long way to go on this large piece!

I can’t even begin to describe the surprise and honor I feel at having received this award. This is an outstanding show with so many worthy entries. To be chosen as first place drawing is an enormous validation for me. I am very new to showing my work, but as some of you might know, this is a lifetime passion of mine. I have been through many periods of doubt, long stretches of paralysis, of feeling like doing my own personal work was pointless as I focused on commercial and decorative work, back to producing work just for myself and finally to finding the courage to put myself out there to be judged. It is terrifying and exhilarating. To be accepted into a juried show is enough. To receive an award like this one is truly special. Thank you Workshop 13 for continuing to curate opportunities of this caliber right here at home.

It has taken me a long time to decide if this piece is going in the right direction, but it’s getting there for sure, so I will share a few progress pictures now. I had hoped to exhibit it with “Still New to Getting Old” after “Headed Home” sold, but sometimes deadlines cannot be a factor in art. Someday they might hang together. We’ll have to see.

My latest piece, “Still New to Getting Old”, was a concept that I meant to do as a companion piece to “Headed Home” to submit this year to the Northeast Fine Art Exhibition at the Workshop 13 Grand Hall in Ware. However “Headed Home” sold at an earlier show. I am working on a new team, but did not finish in time, so Harrison will stand alone at this fantastic show. The opening is August 22, 1-4 if you can make it. Well worth the drive!

The opening reception is August 22, 1-4. It is always a spectacular show if you can make it.

Earlier in the spring I was honored to be accepted in the juried show Variations at the Marblehead Arts Association in Marblehead Ma. It is an exceptional show of 190 talented artists with huge variety of styles and methods.
My recent piece,Headed Home, was selected.
I am over the moon to hear that it has sold! I’m so happy that it is headed to a new home, but a little sad to see it go. This is a strange business. It stings when sales don’t happen and is thrilling when they do, but after so much work and heart put into a piece like this one, it’s hard not to miss it just a little.
