Good straight logs make good straight lumber.

It was a good weekend at the sawmill. Turning these ugly logs into beautiful lumber was fun. These were customer supplied logs cut to his request.

It’s a process…
Remember the GIANT red oak we milled about a year ago?
Only needed 6 boards from that log to make these new quarter sawn stair treads.
1. Mill logs
2. Dry time
3. Run boards through the planer for thickness consistency
4. Straighten edges
5. Round front edge (router top and bottom)
6. Sanding
7. Stain
8. Clear polyurethane (2 coats)
9. Install

We cut some cedar at the sawmill today. Wow! It’s beautiful!! We have lots of lumber in stock and ready to go, including porch posts.

Might have maxed out the sawmill with this giant white oak. This thing was huge! White oak is great for indoor and outdoor furniture and people usually prefer it for trailer flooring. This log was cut into 2 inch boards. Strong and heavy.

We recently picked up this load of 4/4 pine. This is old growth pine that’s been air drying for decades in an Alabama barn. Some of it is over 12 inches wide. Prices start around $2 per board foot. Come get a load!
