Missing Beck's Flower Shop !!

10/31/2013

It is with deep regret that we write this to inform you, our customers and friends, that after 72 years of service to Lexington and Davidson County, Beck's Flower Shop closed our doors and ceasing business operations. Becks has enjoyed a long history in the community, we've forged many lasting and valuable friendships over the years.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our closing creates for our loyal customer base. Unfortunately, the economy and alternative spending options (to flowers) leave us no alternative. Again, than you for 72 years of support, including the last six years under our ownership.
Regards,

What other flowers do we have for sale that still say romance?

The last few years we’ve seen an abundance of orders that are a full mix of flowers, beautiful lilies, paired with roses always make a stunning display! Tulips are another that are in season right now and are at their best. What I love about tulips is their ability to stand on their own in a vase and make a lovely display for any home or office space. Another popular flower for Valentine’s Day is the gerbera daisy, they are pretty, fun and always a winner!

Remember Valentine’s Day says lots of things that are not always about deep passion love, but maybe you want to acknowledge a dear friend, or co-worker or perhaps there is someone you secretly admire, pinks, whites and purples are the perfect color choice!

If you buy some roses for Valentine's Day, what are some tips for making sure they're not dead by Feb. 15?

First, keep them out of direct sunlight and away from any heat vent; blowing air on a live flower causes the moisture to dry out of the petals, causing wilting and early demise. Secondly, bacteria is the biggest offender when it comes to your flowers at home, so it’s important to change the water every day in your vase. If you notice the water is cloudy, that is bacteria growing in the water and your flowers are drinking it, shortening their lifespan. Third, cut the stems every other day, just a bit off the bottom with a very sharp, clean pair of scissors. A good way to see if your stems have closed up, look at the bottom of the stems if there is any browning on them, they have begun the natural process of sealing, you’ll notice once you cut the bottoms they will be white and drinking again! Please note that flowers will drink more the first few days, making it so important that they are given a water change every day!

Tips for Guys

Be Spontaneous.
You don't have to wait for a special occasion to give flowers. In fact, flowers given for no reason other than "I was thinking of you today" mean much more because they are unexpected.

Don't Overlook Anyone.
A bouquet can express a range of feelings -- from romantic to friendly to something in between. Your wife or sweetheart will love to receive a surprise gift of flowers. So will your mother, daughter, sister, and friends.

Try Something New.
Women are interested in a wide variety of flowers and colors. So, when giving roses, consider pink, peach, yellow, white, or assorted colors to catch her attention. And, remember, most women appreciate a beautiful assortment of fresh flowers, as well as roses.

Get More Bloom For The Buck.
The prices of some flowers vary seasonally. Roses, for example, are usually a great value during summer months. In the winter, mixed bouquets may be a better way to go.

Flowers Are Never Boring.
Because of their infinite diversity and unique appeal, flowers never lose their specialness. Each new floral arrangement is a fresh and individual declaration of appreciation -- reflecting positively on your imagination and thoughtfulness.

Flowers Don't Have To Mean Commitment.
Relax, guys. Women know when an arrangement simply means that you care.

Be Prepared.
When ordering flowers, have ready the recipient's name, address, and phone number. If you're not sure what to order, ask for assistance.

Get Professional Help.
Selecting flowers may be a bewildering experience for the uninitiated man. Fortunately, help is available. Consult your professional florist for a special arrangement that will match both your sentiment and her personality.

A Gift Of Flowers Goes A Long Way.
Every woman can remember the last time she got flowers!

The answer is in the presentation.
When you send a woman flowers, there are usually other women who will notice. For starters, every single woman within a 500 foot radius will immediately notice her when the flowers are delivered. For that moment, the woman is the center of attention, and the others begin to buzz about how lucky she is, how terrific you--the sender--must be, and how wonderful your life must be together. Getting a bouquet to her in front of co-workers is a woman's equivalent of a "slam-dunk".

The next step for the woman is to call every single person she knows that isn't within 500 feet of her, and tell them about the flowers. Her girlfriends, her mother, they will all know about the flowers within 24 hours of your gesture. They too, will all be envious of how wonderful your relationship must be together.

Finally, there are certain benefits to sending a woman flowers that you will also feel as a result of this chain reaction of events in her life. Benefits will vary from person to person, often based on what you may or may not have already done wrong in the first place.

Whatever comes of your sending her flowers, remember it the next time you feel like something is missing or isn't quite right in your relationship. Don't send a woman flowers for every occasion or milestone, otherwise she will grow to expect them and their powers will wear off. Keep her on her toes, be creative, be spontaneous, and you will be rewarded.

Why You Should Send Her Flowers
Sending flowers to a woman is one of the few truly storied and romantic practices that still exists in our culture. It's up there with buying a woman jewelry, or sweeping her away to a tropical paradise for the weekend. Sending flowers, you will notice, is the least expensive, yet most emotional of these practices.

By sending flowers to a woman, you will fulfill three key desires that most women have in a relationship; she is loved, she is beautiful, and the people around her think so too. While the last one may not seem as important, it is often felt by women to be the most important aspect of receiving flowers.

Don't believe me? Then ask yourself why a woman would ever have flowers sent to herself? Women do it, and not just because they love flowers. If that were the case, they would just pick up some flowers at the grocery store and arrange them around the house, or on their desk. It's cheaper to do, as most guys already know. Then what makes having flowers sent so much different?

Women Love Flowers
Whether you are aware of it or not, the average woman knows as much about flower varieties as the average man knows about the various makes and models of cars. And just the way a man will occasionally sit around and daydream about sports cars and how he might buy one someday, women too will occasionally sit around and daydream about roses . . . and how he might buy some one day.

While women do love flowers, they always seem to want men to buy them. This is mainly due to the simple fact that women love receiving flowers even more than the flowers themselves. While the old adage claims, "it's the thought that counts," most women seem to want both the thought and the flowers.

But the wanting doesn't stop there, believe it or not, for there is still another want that is perhaps the most important to women and often the least understood by men when it comes to flowers. In addition to your thoughtfulness and the flowers themselves, women absolutely love having them both delivered! The best time? When they aren't expecting it!

Before I go on and explain why this is so, I should say that this does not mean women do not appreciate it when their man comes home from a long day with the groceries and bouquet of flowers from the store. This kind of gesture is considered to be very thoughtful, and even romantic by most women. The important thing to note here is that this kind of flower giving should never be confused with having flowers delivered to a woman, in front of her co-workers.
