I went to Mamma Rabbit’s Nibbles and Sips for brunch yesterday and for the first time in a while I can say I loved every part of the experience!

Cottage core vibes. I LOVE when the outdoors are brought inside for decor! From the gourd lamps, to the wall of sticks, and cute table decorations the vibe was 5 ⭐️.

Both sides of the restaurant had a decent amount of customers but within seconds of sitting down the waiter was taking our drink order and the service was fast and friendly the entire meal.

We shared an appetizer “Cheese Dreams Are Made of These, Who Am I to Dis a Bri” cuz cheese… brie, fig, cinnamon swirl sourdogh, and it did not disappoint.

We both ordered a mimosa and enjoyed them.

For our main dish I got the “Just a Wowie” French toast made with orange infused egg batter and key lime curd. I devoured it, no syrup needed! I want a bucket of that curd. My friend got “The Dixie Bowl” and she was done before me! Another 10/10. I got a side of bacon and never have I ever had bacon that would pass my
sons crispiness test from a restaurant. Not burnt, not “to wobbly” but just right.

The price was equal to or less than many of the chain brunch places and the experience was by far one of the best brunch experiences I’ve had in SC.

I’m going back for lunch, more breakfast (eggs Benedict next time or German pancakes) and to buy some take home meals. Yep, they sell frozen family size meals to take home and heat for around 20.00.

Bonus points- the shop next door little bunny Frou Frous was super cute and such a fun surprise to explore after brunch. 🐰💕

Whats the next brunch spot I try?

Steel Hands Brewing

📍2350 Foreman Street, Cayce, SC 29033

If y’all knew this place was this good and haven’t been shouting it from the rooftops, why not?!??

I’ve never heard of Steel Hands, but I asked ChatGpt to create me a fun Fathers Day schedule for yesterday since we celebrated a day early, with a few distilleries and breweries to visit. What better gift then the gift of being a “passenger prince” for the day and being driven around to sample great drinks and food?

I hadn’t planned on lunch at Steel Hands, I didn’t even know they served food, but when I saw a hot and honey chicken sandwich on the menu I had to try it. I can’t say no to anything hot and honey. (Possibly another reason I married my husband cuz he’s the sweetest hottie I ever met!)

Southern fried REAL chicken breast, not the frozen patties you get most other places, smothered in pimento cheese, and a perfectly toasted brioche bun. My husband tried the Bang Bang Shrimp. I may have suggested he order the shrimp, I wanted the shrimp too. We shared our food.

The shrimp was cooked perfectly (the right amount of crispy) and it was served on a bed of slaw. I took the rest of that slaw with me. I’m not lying when I say we went to the next distillery and after our tasting I sat in my car and ate the rest of it with my emergency car fork. Everyone has one of those for situations like this, right?

Lunch was a roller coaster of emotions. Excitement at the potential of an amazing sandwich, regret when I saw the wings the group next to us ordered because they looked so freaking good and I didnt order any, and happinesses when my food came and it tasted better then I could have ever imagined. I shared my regret at not ordering wings with the server at the food window once I saw them and she couldn’t have been sweeter. She loves the wings too!

There was live music outside and it was the perfect start to our day. My husband was singing along all the way to our car.

Next time I’m getting wings and pimento cheese pulled pork egg rolls. I’m leaning into the southern life and loving all this pimento cheese I’ve been trying.

If you haven’t been here I suggest you go. Today! If you’re unsure where to take the dad’s in your life for Father’s Day lunch. Go here.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteak’s

📍942 B Harden St, Columbia SC 29205

Coming from a small coal town in NEPA most weeks included a cheesesteak or two from one of the many pizza shops in my town. Almost all of them were made with a red sauce that’s standard on any cheesesteak in the Lehigh Valley.

One day my boyfriend (now husband) decided he was taking me to Pat’s in South Philly to try a real cheesesteak(wiz-with). I fell in love, with the cheesesteak , but I’ll admit introducing me to this wonderful cheesy meaty sandwich might have been the thing that made me say I do to the man as well.

I searched the Lehigh Valley for a comparable cheesesteak, but was stuck settling for red sauce. Then we moved south and months went by without a single cheesesteak. I couldn’t find anything close to back home until my husband comes home to tell me once again he’s taking me for a cheesesteak . I’ll love it, he promises.

Well, baby, I married you for a reason and this was it.

We walked into Dave’s and ordered the regular beef cheesesteak-wiz and the women at the counter says “with or without”? The memories of that glorious day in Philly came flooding back to me and I was hyped! “With” of course!

I loved the vibe of this little cheesesteak spot and the counter seating by the window was an amazing spot to sit and eat. It was a little expensive, but we shared a cheesesteak and fries with a drink for under 30.00 and both of us were full so I’m ok with that.

My only complaint, if I had to have one, was the bun was super greasy and falling apart but honestly I’ve missed this style cheesesteak so much I would have licked it all right off the wrapper.

If you like dry meat on a roll with some sort of melted deli cheese Dave’s is not the spot for you, BUT if your looking for a cheesesteak reminiscent of a Philly cheesesteak Dave’s is the first in the area that I’ve found and so worth it.

P.S. Dave, I’ll be back!

Broke af this week. So I’m using up all my freezer foods! Made Gordon Ramsey’s Beer Battered Fish and chips with tilapia I had in the freezer and 3 potatoes.

Gordon Ramsey’s Beer Battered Fish recipe:
4 fillets white fish
Salt and peoper
1 cup all-purpose flour (extra for coating fish)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup cold beer
1 teaspoon paprika
Vegetable oil, for deep frying

Mix the flower, baking powder, cold beer, and paprika together to make a batter. Put some extra flour in a dish with salt and pepper. Dreadge your fish through the flour and then dip into the batter, turning it until all the sides are coded and lay it in the oil for about three minutes on each side.(timing depends on the size of your fish)

I didn’t have enough oil to completely cover the fish so I used what I had and it still worked OK. I also made homemade tartar sauce since I didn’t have any. Super easy and pretty good.

( A few spoons of mayo, a big spoonful of relish, salt, and garlic powder)

For the sides, I just served a bag of corn I found hidden in the bottom of the freezer and I fried sliced in seasoned russet potatoes topped with balsamic and parmesean cheese cuz thats my favorite.

How did strawberry week go?

Well, I burnt both my hands and instead of jam I made strawberry soup. Sometimes it’s a kitchen fail 🤷‍♀️

My son said his pb and soup sandwich tasted better then regular jelly. We got some chocolate dipped and a crispy chickened salad with berries so not all bad.

We’ve got strawberries 🍓 Chocolate dipped, strawberrry salad, jam and more coming up!

Another dinner from my Mother’s Day trip to Whole Foods!

It was so good, and super easy to make. I just cooked the chicken for about nine minutes per side in a frying pan with a little olive oil, (it came with the sauce already on it) made some basmati rice and had a kale salad that I already had left over in the fridge from a different day.

Also, because I use what I have, repurpose leftovers, and just can’t afford to buy everything my little foodie heart desires when I want it the “naan” is actually the flatbread from gyros. I made the other week from a Gyro kit. I put some butter and garlic in a pan added the flatbread and sprinkled some parsley on top. It was pretty good!
