I recently finished Bluegrass Chaos, and it is one of the most detailed pieces I have made all year. It is a chaos pattern built from black walnut, cherry, hard maple, padauk, sapele, purpleheart, wenge, and framed with a maple border and a thick leopardwood border. Because it is an end grain board, the leopardwood face grain shows all the way around the edges, and it looks unreal in person.
This board is meant for real use in the kitchen. End grain is the surface many chefs prefer because it is gentle on expensive knives. The blade moves between the wood fibers instead of cutting across them, which keeps your knives sharper for much longer. The fibers then close back up after each cut, which is why end grain boards stay smooth and hide scoring better than any other style. People sometimes say boards like this are too nice to use, but I build them so you can use them. They are designed to handle daily chopping, slicing, and serving while still looking good for years. And if you still do not want to cut on it, it makes a beautiful serving or charcuterie board. Just do not hide it in a cabinet. Let it be part of your home.
This board is not made to be the cheapest option. It is made to be the best option. I build it to last, to perform, and to look beautiful every day you use it. It is built to be an heirloom piece that can be handed down from one generation to the next.
The board sits on solid one inch brass feet with non slip, non marring silicone inserts, giving it a lifted and steady feel on any countertop. It will not slide on any counter.
If you are looking for a unique handmade gift this Christmas, I have several cutting and charcuterie boards available along with my popular bread bow knives made from exotic and domestic hardwoods. I also have my Bluegrass Pot Hangers, which have become a customer favorite and are something most people have never seen before. Each board includes a tin of Larson Wood Designs Board Butter to help keep it looking its best.
