To all you Christmas lovers out there. On Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20, 2022, I am having an Estate Sale at 1604 Tryon Rd. NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. There’s Christmas trees, lights, North Pole Village, and lots of awesome ornaments at this sale…some great ribbon too. Yes, there’s also furniture, paintings (even a Santa), and some other decorative items. I’m relocating to a warmer climate. Don’t panic, I still have tree repair elves in the area.

Well, the tree trimming has begun...top first, because I don’t like putting a ladder in the tree when it’s decorated.

My elves, Magic and Glee, decided that their home schooling project on Organic Architecture was best done while sitting in the tree, evidently. When I came home from the grocery, they had drug out some of my many architectural drawings and proceeded to pick their favorites. Both have excellent architectural taste; Glee has chosen Fallingwater by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright, while Magic is trying to conjure up the lovely porch addition for our own house. Thank you Michael Pipher for your kind permission to print this drawing of Fallingwater for this folly and to J Smith for the fabulous landscape design and hard scrape.

My favorite tips for all you tree decorators out there! It’s officially the Holiday Season beginning Friday...let’s sleep off that turkey first. Some hints to make your decorating Over The Top!

1. Ornament Hooks make your finished tree look more polished. The strings on ornaments are required by Customs and rarely look good dangling from a limb. You can also get some dressmaker satin and tie your special ornaments on a branch to make them stand out.

2. Be sure to add ornaments to the inside of your tree to add depth and reflection into your tree design. Inexpensive shiny round glass, or plastic, will reflect your lights. It’s also a great way to set the mood for your theme with color, be it the Every Ornament I Ever Bought Tree (like mine) or one that is keyed to your decor or location!

3. Finish the top first...that way you don’t have to put the ladder into a decorated tree!
