The Secrets of Halloween Divination
​Did you know these antique postcards feature "divination games"? Long before dating apps, people used Halloween "magic" to find their future spouse—a tradition dating back centuries to when the "veil" between worlds was thought to be thinnest.
​In these cards from my collection, you can see the mirror ritual in action: at the stroke of midnight, you would stand in the dark with a single candle, waiting for your future husband's face to appear in the glass. As one card hauntingly says: "He is your fate whose face you've seen in the mirror's face on Halloween". It was the original way to search for a soulmate—with just a touch of spooky mystery!
