When you work in a niche industry like our company is in, you sometimes forget how unique and awesome the projects are that we get to be a part of.

This is one of those projects.

Yes, it’s just white pine flooring cut from 19th century barn beams, but the end product is part of a multi-million dollar restoration of a historical landmark structure built in 1873 in Kansas City, Kansas.

That’s wild. Proud and thankful to play a small part.

…might have to plan a cross country roadtrip to see the finished product.

The Shammo family drove 1.5 hours to visit us on a whim and walked away with a floor.

They were looking for a simple, yet quality floor to replace the dingy carpet in their daughter‘s bedroom.

What they left with (or in all truth: had delivered a week later) was an in-stock bundle of all 6” yellow pine that was milled from 3” x 8” floor boards that were once a factory floor in a brick building on Water St. in Lancaster, PA.

To say that they are thrilled with the outcome is an understatement and we are extremely grateful to be a part of their family’s and home’s story.

This white pine is so unique and so beautiful.

This raw material is sourced from the attics of homes built in the northeast United States in the 18th and 19th century. The ideal material is often super wide and unfinished. Then the original, aged patina is left untouched throughout the milling process and then is reinstalled with the old surface remaining as-is in all of its glory.

However, sometimes that darker patina is not desired, or in this case, the rest of the house floors were refinished at some point so a planed surface is desired in order to match the rest of the house.

The result is stunning and cannot be replicated.

We had the pleasure of providing beams, white pine threshing floor planks, and some for this beautifully crafted island. What a unique piece of functional furniture!

Please don’t tell my wife, but the homeowner completed this within just a few days. I need his creativity and energy!😂

When these photos of reclaimed red oak were uploaded to an online site, there was an option to allow AI to assess the photos and craft a write up based on what it sees.

The funny part? It was fully convinced that this is white oak. That’s because while reclaimed red oak can still have reddish tones, the virgin growth wood naturally has a much tighter grain compared to new red oak and is very hard for the untrained eye to notice the difference, especially when stained and finished.

Long story short - don’t discredit reclaimed red oak just because you don’t like new red oak!
