My Carrion Plant also known as Zulu giant or stapelia gigantea decided to show off for opening week!

Care and Growing Conditions :

🪴Light:
Thrives in bright, direct sunlight, whether indoors near a south-facing window or outdoors in full sun.

🪴Soil:
Requires a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix with added gravel or perlite.

🪴Watering:
Water thoroughly using the “soak and dry” method, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

🪴Temperature:
It is not cold-hardy and needs to be protected from frost. In colder climates, grow it in a container that can be moved indoors for the winter.

🪴Winter Care:
Provide a winter rest period with cooler temperatures (around 50-55°F) and reduced watering

After 15 years as a hairstylist with a deep focus on sustainable beauty and healthy hair, I found myself craving a creative outlet that could tie together my passions for art, nature, and intentional living. What started as a love for making handmade jewelry grew into an exploration of form and function — evolving into hand-poured concrete home and garden decor that celebrates earthy textures and natural beauty.

For the past three years, I’ve been hitting the road, vending at art markets, sharing my work, and connecting with like-minded creatives and plant lovers across the region. Through every market tent and long drive, the vision stayed clear: to one day plant roots and open a space of my own.

🌱 And now, that dream is here.

Concrete Roots Botanical Studio is a space where artistry, community, and greenery come together. Inside the shop, you’ll find lush tropical and foliage plants, sustainable beauty products I personally stand behind, curated gifts, and handcrafted goods from local artists — many of whom I’ve met along the way on this journey.

It’s more than a shop — it’s a studio, a sanctuary, and a small slice of the wild and beautiful life I’ve been building, one handmade piece at a time.

It has been hard to even think about what to post to keep my account relevant here. Dealing with the aftermath of an accident like this is so stressful and there are so many moving parts. Insurance, getting here and there as needed, looking for a new car, not physically/mentally feeling 100%, balancing work. It’s a lot.

So, here’s a picture with .hesselbein from my last market. This guy has been such a help and done a great job keeping me from going off the deep end this week. Times like this, the real ones shine. ✨

Sometimes you take a step forward and you’re thrown two steps back. So is life I guess.

Physically, I’m mostly okay. Emotionally, not so much. My full vendor set-up and all of my art inventory is gone.

I’ve had to bow out of Memphis Oddities this weekend but will keep you updated when I’m able to get back out on the scene.
