Some happy art news!

I’m delighted to share that two of my pastel paintings, Keeping Close and Turquoise Vase, have been accepted into the 2026 Red Rock Pastel Society of Nevada Juried Member Exhibition.

I’m especially honored to have been juried into the Masters Division, judged by Marla Baggetta.

This year’s exhibition includes artists from across the United States and around the world, with 214 works selected for the show.

These two paintings are quite different from one another, which makes having them both included especially meaningful to me. Keeping Close reflects my love of cows and the quiet relationships between them, while Turquoise Vase gave me the freedom to play with color, shape and abstraction.

Throwback Thursday — “Oh, Happy Day”

I still love the way the light catches the vase in this painting, along with the composition and the joyful mix of colors. It simply feels happy to me—which is how it found its name.

Sometimes it doesn’t just illuminate—it seems to gather, quietly transforming what we’re looking at.

That’s what I was chasing in Gathering Light.

I don’t always paint what I see.

Sometimes I paint what stays with me.

Morning on the Mississippi

Some paintings stay with me long after they’re finished.

This one was inspired by an early morning riverboat cruise on the Mississippi with dear friends. The quiet water, the soft light, and the peaceful reflections created one of those moments I knew I wanted to remember. My husband was actually the first to notice the beautiful light that morning.

I learned that this painting has a special meaning for my sister-in-law, who chose it for her own home. It reminds her of her dear father, who loved to fish. When she was a little girl, they spent time together fishing along the Mississippi, and this painting brings those treasured memories back to her.

As artists, we never really know where a painting’s story will continue. Sometimes it becomes much more than a landscape—it becomes a bridge to someone we love and the memories we never want to lose.

There are moments I wish I could tuck into a pocket and save for later. Since I can’t, I paint them instead.

The greatest gift an artist can receive is knowing a painting continues its story in someone else’s home.

I’m delighted to share that Into the Quiet has found a new home.

Thank you to everyone who paused to walk this quiet desert path with me. Your kind words and encouragement meant so much, and I’m grateful this painting resonated with so many of you.

Every painting begins because something quietly asks to be noticed. It brings me great joy to know this one will continue bringing that quiet feeling into someone’s home.

There will be more quiet places to discover.

Into the Quiet

Some places seem to ask us to slow down.

The details begin to fade, the light takes over, and for a little while there’s nowhere else you’d rather be.

This path could be almost anywhere. I think that’s why it stayed with me. We’ve all found places like this—places where the world grows quiet and we remember to simply look.

I hope it reminds you to keep looking, because magic is often hiding in ordinary places.

Outstanding in a Field

Sometimes the subject of a painting is small, but the feeling of the place is enormous.

I loved the vastness of this landscape—the soft lavender distance, the warm grasses, and those few cows standing quietly in the field.

Turquoise Vase

I started with flowers and a turquoise vase.

Then the painting apparently had other ideas. 😂

I finished this one yesterday and decided to let color, shape, and a little instinct take over.

I’m learning that sometimes the hardest part of painting is knowing when to stop.

So I stopped. 🌼
