Authentic vintage Bitossi horse bowls are part of the iconic Mid-Century Modern (MCM) output created by Aldo Londi, artistic director for the Italian ceramics company. These are highly collectible. The bowls are part of the "figurine" collection and are prized by collectors for their whimsical, handcrafted style. Designer: Aldo Londi, the artistic director for Bitossi from 1946 until the early 1990s, was the designer behind the animal and figurine lines.
Glaze: Londi developed proprietary glazes to create textured, colorful surfaces. In addition to the famous Rimini Blu, these horse bowls were made with glazes in different colorways, including orange, green, and red, with hand-painted details.
Unique markings: As a result of being handmade, each vintage bowl is unique, with brush strokes and small imperfections visible on the glaze. Maker's mark: In the 1950s and 60s, Bitossi pieces were marked with a handwritten "Made in Italy" or "Italy" on the base, along with a style number.
