Now that I am into the Homesteading life, I decided to pick baking back up as a way of life. I started crafting and building furniture when I was 24 years old. It basically started out as a necessity instead of a hobby. I was raising 3 kids by myself, no help financially from their dad, and I was working and going to college. So money was very tight. Even though money was tight, I still wanted my
house to look nice and have nice things. I did not have internet back then to help me, so I had to figure things out on my own. I started off with simple things like floral arrangements, then moved to painting object and pictures. I wanted my walls, shelves and tables to look pretty. I remember the day I started building furniture. I wanted a cute table to put by the door to put flowers on with a picture hanging above it. The stuff in the stores was way to expensive for me to purchase, but a few boards and screws were not. Once I was in the lumber store, I did not want to look like I did not know what I was doing, so I walked around looking, instead of asking for help. The next day I spent about 6 hours with my new boards, and I had a cute little table that I was proud of. From there, I thought I could make a coffee table and end tables to match. So back to the lumber yard I went. From that point on I made all kinds of furniture, tables, shelves, benches, toy boxes, bird houses and doll houses. Once I realized I loved to make stuff, then came the painting. I started painting everything, walls, cabinets, crafts and anything else I could get my hands on. And that is where refinishing furniture got started. It was no longer a necessity, but a hobby, it was my passion. Now, almost 30 years later, I am still at it. I still do the same things, only better now. I teach people to paint and craft, and I love it. I am working on building my business into something I can be truly proud of. I hope you enjoy my page as much as I enjoy doing all this.
