25 years ago thousands of people went to bed on a Monday night for the last time. They did not know they would never come home again.
The people who loved them did not know that their world would be forever changed and nothing would ever feel completely safe or normal or as joyful again.
25 years ago we were witnesses to the very worst, to the very best, to the bravest, to the saddest, to the most horrifying and to the unimaginably heartbreaking.
For a fleeting moment we united as one and it was then when we were at our strongest.
Nothing is the same. No one is who they were back then. For those who lived through it, we learned that even though the world can feel very big and out of control, we are not small. Through love, kindness, patience and empathy we can all be bigger and the world can be better.
It's never too late to start. This Monday night, 25 years later, make that call, hold that hug the longest, smile, whisper, touch, laugh. If not for yourself, then for the thousands of people who wish they had that night back again, do it for them.
Good night.
(In memory of 9/11/2001 and all the lives lost and touched, this video is lovingly dedicated. I remember everything that day in New York and will never, ever forget.)
