I repurposed a table originally made for different commercial client that sadly went out of business. Yet, this sycamore table has found its forever home at the Maggie Valley Fly Shop . This is shop is very special to me not because of the "stuff" that is in it, but because of the people that stand it up every single morning. It's just a special place because of love, support and river therapy I have received from motley crew and now it has an awesome table where folks can go to tie flies, lie and tie more flies. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?! Oh, you can buy stuff and book a guided trip too...lunch gets tricky though, usually because you are too busy catching and not just fishing!

I just finished the fine sanding process on this sycamore river table and it's about to roll into the finish room. I'm going to apply 2K polyurethane or, as I commonly refer to it, my "6 toddlers with match box cars and grape juice" finish. This finish was designed to withstand nail polish remover, so a few fly tyers shouldn't be a problem.

This was originally the Buzzed Viking table, but since both the Locust and Concord locations have gone out of business, I repurposed the piece for another commercial client. I had a little help from for the embedded prints and they worked out amazingly well, none of the colors bled or became dull during the expoxy pour and cure process, which impressed me.

Stay tuned next week for the finished, in situ photos of this table's new habitat...sorry, the ecologist in me couldn't resist. The 9ft x 4 ft maple table behind it won't be ready for another couple of weeks, but it is going to be a stunner especially once the bar height base is attached.

It's almost time for the at the North Carolina Fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC. This coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday (September 18-20) I'll have a booth showcasing this Walnut/Red Epoxy table along with epoxy wall art and coffee table pieces. I have an special event page for this show with links to all particulars. This is my last show of 2026 and so all of these booth display pieces need a new home so I can make room for next year's selection. Trying a new color, sage green, for a very special client. It was selected to mimic (not exactly match) a single color in a multi-color rug. Ultimately, this spalted maple piece will become a sofa table with bar stools tucked underneath.

I'm curious, do you think I should keep this as a standard color offering on future demo and/or inventory pieces?

I started a new live edge river table this week. This one is a spalted maple piece with a black/grey river under a clear epoxy overpour. This will be a pub height dining table measuring 9 feet long x 4 feet wide; a perfect size for Ruth, my new slab flattener. Delivery should be in the next 3-4 weeks.

I'd like to introduce "Ruth" (Yes, there is a story, but you'll only hear about it at the shop!). Ruth is our new slab flattening machine from Jointa Wood ( ), the only one available anywhere in North Carolina. This machine has a 12 inch helical head with 81 carbide teeth AND and a 12" integrated drum sander. We can flatten slabs or tables up to 70 inches wide, 14+ feet long and 11 inches thick. Ruth takes the critical task of flattening slabs and any epoxy project from days to hours. Even better, you aren't left to sand down the machine marks from a 3" flattening bit or clean up the bags of wood shavings. We can be aggressive and take about 1/8" of material off per pass or we can be super gentle and remove less the 1/64" per pass. The best part of all, the last pass or two is with the drum sander so it's already sanded to 120 grit when you take it home; you'll be applying finish in no time! We also have a jointer bit that allows use to prep for glue-ups and a special V-bit which make the cut for that waterfall table you've been dreaming of trying.

Yesterday and today were a major milestone for ! My Jointa Wood slab flattener () arrived and is installed!

This is the first machine of it's kind anywhere in North Carolina, and I couldn't be more excited about the opportunities for my clients.

I can now flatten and sand any size table from about 6 feet wide to 14 feet long. You'll be seeing a lot more this machine going forward as it is will quickly become the backbone of the entire business. I should be flattening slabs and tables by the the end of the week. I already have a project queued up for later this week and I'll be excited to share the results!

2026 has already been full of uniquely epic builds! While the intense spring show season ended at the Maggie Valley Fly Fishing Festival in May, the pace of the shop has not slowed down one bit. So as we ring in the beginning of our 4th year, there is a lot to talk about and projects to highlight!
