GWB was asked to host an internship for an aspiring Architect last year. The experience was great and I could not have been more impressed with Jasmin Beltran. She is on her way to doing some great things. I also had the opportunity last year to observe some of the Long Beach High School's programs for training future Architects, Carpenters, welders, etc. I came away impressed with the School Districts commitment to helping our next generation understand that a career in the trades is not only satisfying, but also necessary. As a person in the industry for more than 35 years, I would love to see more encouragement for students to pursue a career in the trades. Not sure who originally quoted the following but it was told to me at my first job in Architecture and has always struck a chord........ “If you work with your hands, you're a laborer. If you work with your hands and your mind, you're a craftsman. If you work with your hands and your mind and your heart, you're an artist.”
