G H E N T (Dutch: Gent, French: Gand, historically known as Gaunt in English) is a city and a municipality in the East Flanders province of the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is the capital and largest city of the province and the third largest in the country, after Brussels and Antwerp. It is a port and university city.
My main hub while on my European antique sourcing trips, and always a fave. It offers many UNESCO sites but stops short of being a UNESCO city unlike its counterpart, Brugge, apparently due to one modern building along the canal. I absolutely adore Ghent and always recommend visiting here to enjoy the food, culture, and architecture . Sensory overload ! It’s conveniently located within 30 to 90 minutes from most of my antique sources, and offers an evening respite with plenty of restaurants and walking tours. Sadly, my linen shop closed but they have a location in Brugge which I don’t always have time to visit. But, there are other gift options that include Belgian chocolates, the “nose of Ghent” and a wide variety of Flemish gifts. I would consider this area a potential live abroad, but darn that Flemish language is killer ! Fortunately, English is widely spoken! Have you been ?
