Inspo | Renovated Noto Convent with an Artist’s touch of Blue

Nestled in the small, southern town of Noto in Sicily this home studio by Artist Sergio Fiorentino mixes the old and new, combining mid century modern furniture and a minimal aesthetic in a former Cistercian convent. His own paintings are prevalent throughout the space, classically contemporary and realized in brisk blue brush strokes- the ultramarine blue that defines his artwork a symbol of sacredness and rebirth akin to the restoration of his home.

Partnering with architect Massimo Carnemolla, .it the project was at its roots a restoration of the building- removing the false lowered ceiling, uncovering the stone floors and original plaster walls and celebrating the “cracks and signs of the times”.

Inspo | Chic Parisian Apt

Franck Gender’s Paris apartment is located in the heart of the City of Light and hosts beautiful Parisian Street Views and Gender’s personal design elements. The 2,000 square feet space is flooded with natural light and striking use of mirrors and shapes, a unique take on a space that respects the bones of the space with a new modern twist.

The space conveys a home meets gallery feel- mixed art, walnut finishes and stained glass windows are placed alsongside more modern art concepts of mirrored walls, gres marquetry and alabaster wall lights. furniture is paired with art by Genser himself- a favorite piece of ours being the “Jelly Dresser” a geometric, functional pierce of polished chrome in a rich eggplant tone. Stunning!

Inspo | Lake Tahoe Sanctuary amongst the Trees

Sheltered deep amongst the trees in Truckee, California this modern Lake Tahoe home is sleek and minimal- built to bring the outdoors in.

The home is Donald Judd inspired- built around a central courtyard that’s partially covered by a cantilevered roof and illuminated by a fire pit- the feeling of almost a campsite in modern form.

The dark floor tiles of honed fine hole basalt contrast with oak and raw, sugar pine wood throughout the space. Details of blue and green are incorporated to tie in the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe lake.

Inspo | “From father to son, son to father”- Il Palazzetto, a collaboration between generations.

When Aldo Businaro inherited Il Palazzetto in 1964, the proud Palladian-style villa outside Monselice, an ancient town a 30-minute drive south of Padua in northeast Italy, was all but unlivable.

It wasn’t until Businaro met the renowned architect Carlo Scarpa, on a work trip to Japan in 1969 that he found a collaborator who would respond to, rather than rewrite, the villa’s 17th-century vernacular. Their lasting friendship was one of the few constants in the last decade of the elder Scarpa’s life — and forever altered the spirit of Businaro’s home. Over a period of nearly 40 years, the villa’s remaking would weave together the lives of not just two generations of the Businaro family but also two generations of Scarpas.

Tobia Scarpa, who faithfully implemented his father’s drawings and ideas in this project after his death, also finished the impressive staircase that was an initial design problem. This represents the completion of that ideal path between the ancient and the modern. The project is today Villa Palazzetto, an admirable fusion of late Renaissance architectural thought with the genius of the 20th century modernism.

Inspo | Parisian Contemporary

Nestled in the quiet suburb of Clamart, French designer Emilie Lembardeley’s is a reflection of her own design ethos- “jewelery for the interior”.

The renovated home is now modern, decorated with green influence and an assortment of materials- many of the pieces of her own design. The dining room features a Lemardeley prototype table of burnt wood and polished resin. The Dionysus chandelier is also her own design and paired perfectly with chairs.

The careful contrast of materials- glass, wood, textured metal, wool and glass are bold, yet refined- truly Parisian Contemporary.

Inspo | Casa Sumé by Gustavo Neves

Stone, wood and raw texture are staples in Gustavo Neves work- defining his aesthetic in organic rich material. Casa Sumé mixes all these elements into a dark and intense concept home in Neves’ native Brazil.

Neves’ sculptural furniture always features natural raw materials contrasting with man-made elements. The Sumé dining table was carved from a piece of reclaimed wood and then inlayed by Neves with bronze heated to 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. The wood was then carbonized—making each piece unique, with patina and form influenced by the metal’s contact with the wood.

Inspo | Wabi-Sabi Apartment
This carefully curated space by .bhutani.designs in Surat is both minimalistic and contemporary, all while maintaining a functional space for a young family to live in. The marble herringbone, textured lime concrete finishes and muted elegant tones all match the spirit of wabi-sabi designs. The contemporary concepts are quietly bold- green glazed walls and a laser cut aluminum screen casting starry constellations are a wonderful surprise!

Inspo | Statement Art
Art is a powerful aspect and detail that is deeply personal to the client- and in this project is calculated for subtle elegance-This grand New York apartment by ties contemporary and classic with vintage furnishing and modern art. The Roy Lichtenstein painting poised above a Joaquin Tenreiro sofa and Vincenzo de Cotiis side table pairs delicately with the Nacho Carbonell table lamps- the details as Volpe states, “make the rooms feel old and new at the same time- familiar yet extraordinary”.

Inspo | Mediterranean Muse

Compartir in Barcelona is a contemporary urban venue of steel with its original walls and ceiling exposed. Bright colors used alongside softer tones and natural materials evoke the feel of the sea. The curved shapes of mirrors and wicker dividers bring a warm counterpoint, converted into lamps of warm light scattered along the space, and bringing privacy to the tables, one of our client's priorities. They recreate an abstract landscape of sails and vessels, referencing the bay of Cadaques.

Inspo | Rich, honey-toned maple wood in refined, thin strips cascade through this new Toronto restaurant by Chef Matty Matheson. Matheson was determined to build a “wooden cathedral” and he accomplished just that with a architect Omar Gandhi- a beautiful, soft space that is crafted to showcase the intricate details of the wood.

The creamy raw wood is prone to stain and wear- materials chosen to specifically create that effect and gain character throughout the wear and tear, and life that is in a restaurant. Architect Ghandi describes their decision stating that they, “picked materials that were going to age beautifully and develop a patina. You can’t really do that with unnatural, synthetic materials… people are going to touch it [the wood] and sit on it and spill- building this beautiful layer over time”.

Detail Studio Mood loved- the subtle brass pendants that tied into the maple design beautifully.
