Ohio police chief arrested in Florida after grand jury hands down 70-count child s*x indictment

An Ohio police chief is facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars after being slapped with a 70-count indictment for alleged s*x crimes involving a child.

Bethel Police Chief Chad Essert, 44, was taken into custody without incident Tuesday night in Seminole, Florida, by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

A Clermont County grand jury indicted the Blanchester, Ohio, resident on 56 counts of s*xual battery and 14 counts of unlawful s*xual conduct with a minor — all third-degree felonies.

If convicted of all charges, Essert faces a maximum penalty of 280 years in prison.

The allegations stem from offenses that authorities claim occurred between 2005 and 2010, while Essert was an instructor at the “Young Marines” and a teacher at Scarlet Oaks Career Campus in Sharonville, Ohio.
Officials said the alleged victim was a student of Essert’s and that the crimes took place across multiple locations in Clermont and Hamilton counties.

“It takes tremendous courage for a victim to come forward, especially when the accused wears a badge and holds a position of authority,” Clermont County Sheriff Chris Stratton said following the indictment.

“Today’s indictment demonstrates that no one is above the law. Every victim deserves to be heard, and every allegation will be thoroughly investigated and pursued in accordance with the law.”

Prosecutor Mark Tekulve echoed the sheriff’s sentiments, emphasizing that victims are “protected and served regardless of the name or title of the perpetrator.”

Officials clarified the charges are unrelated to a separate investigation involving Essert that was previously reported by local media.

FOX 19 reported Essert resigned from a position in Elmwood Place, Ohio, in 2010 to avoid being fired over allegations of s*xual harassment and intimidating a witness.

Essert’s employment status is unclear, as of Friday afternoon.
He is being held in the Pinellas County Jail awaiting extradition to Clermont County to face the charges.

The Sheriff’s Office urged anyone else who believes they may have been a victim of similar conduct by Essert to immediately contact law enforcement as the investigation remains ongoing.

The Village of Bethel did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment.

Mississippi teen accused of killing elderly couple has brothers who allegedly shot deputy cops say ‘will never walk again’
The two brothers of a Mississippi teen accused of killing an elderly couple allegedly attempted to gun down a sheriff’s deputy, who police said will “never walk again,” in a separate incident just days later.

Cordarius Hobbs, 17, allegedly broke into the home of 74-year-old Billy Blair and his 71-year-old wife Virginia Carol Blair on June 3 in Mendenhall, Mississippi, and killed them, WLBT reported.

Just days later, on June 8, Cordarius Hobbs’ brothers, Cortavious and Cortavion Hobbs, allegedly tried to kill a Covington County, Mississippi, deputy.

Covington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ricky Lott told Fox News Digital the two men fled from deputies after a traffic stop that led to both Cortavious and Cortavion allegedly firing their weapons.

All three people are brothers, Mississippi Department of Public Safety Media and Public Relations Specialist Bailey Martin told Fox News Digital.

Lott said Cortavious and Cortavion were initially pulled over by Deputy Yates Rodney for a seat belt violation, saying the suspects were initially “cordial, friendly and light-hearted,” adding the two men were coming back from a fishing trip.

The deputy sheriff also said that Cortavious and Cortavion had ma*****na in the car, stating that Yates could see a blunt inside.

When he questioned Cortavious and Cortavion about the drugs, Lott said the situation began getting tense.

A 2-to-3-mile-long high-speed chase ended when the driver got stuck in the mud, Lott said, adding that Rodney was shot in his shoulder.

The deputy sheriff said the doctor told Rodney that he “will never walk again,” saying the bullet nicked his lungs and spine.
Lott said Rodney has only been with the agency for around six months and recently got married. A GoFundMe set up for the injured deputy states that he “faces a long and challenging road to recovery.”

The deputy sheriff said Cortavious and Cortavion both have juvenile criminal records but couldn’t give any more details.

Cortavious and Cortavion were charged with attempted capital murder and hindering prosecution, and Cortavion is also charged with felony fleeing.

The shooting happened just days after the suspects’ brother, Cordarius, allegedly killed Billy and Virginia Blair.

Deputies with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office were called to the couple’s home at around 12:24 p.m. on June 3 after family members couldn’t reach the couple.

Once at the house, according to officials, the deputies were met with gunfire.

Cordarius is charged with two counts of capital murder, one count of burglary, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and two counts of aggravated assault over 65 years old.

California 7-year-old left with half a skull after crash involving undocumented truck driver shares touching moment with Trump’s top brass

Nearly two years after an illegal immigrant almost took her life, California seven-year-old Dalilah Coleman and her parents met with US Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headquarters as they got an update on a push to pass a law named in her honor.

Mullin spoke to her father, Marcus, about the significance of passing Dalilah’s Law, which would prohibit any state from granting a Commercial Driver’s License to an undocumented person.
On June 20, 2024, Partap Singh — an undocumented man from India, who had been given a commercial driver’s license by the state despite his immigration status — was speeding through a construction zone and failed to stop his truck for traffic, leading to the horrifying crash, according to DHS.

Singh entered the country illegally through the southern border in October 2022 but was released by the Biden administration. He was rearrested by ICE in August 2025 to face deportation proceedings.

Dalilah, who was 5 years old at the time of the crash, spent three weeks in a coma and required six months of hospital treatment, which included a craniectomy, before her family could bring her home, leaving her without half her skull for four months, DHS said, citing Coleman.

Following the incident, she has “been diagnosed with diplegic cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, and will need life-long therapy,” DHS further wrote.

The Trump Administration has also advocated for the passing of the Dalilah Law. During the State of the Union Speech earlier this year, President Donald Trump also urged Congress to act.

During the meeting, Coleman’s father said, “We’re going to go around to all the governors and ask them to sign the Dalilah Standard, and pledge their state to the Dalilah Standard, which will stop illegal immigrants from truck driving and will put harsher laws on trucking.”
Back when Dalilah’s initial accident had occurred, Marcus reached out to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, but was ignored and “received nothing back at all,” he revealed back in January on Fox News.

“Dalilah is just one of countless victims of illegal alien truck drivers. President Trump is calling on Congress to pass Dalilah’s Law, to make it impossible for illegal aliens to obtain commercial driver’s licenses,” Mullin commented following the meeting.

Singh was arrested on August 29, 2025 and has remained in federal custody.

High school senior shot at family gathering collects diploma with bullet lodged in his cheek
A Georgia high school senior who was recently shot three times at a family gathering appeared at his graduation with a bullet still lodged in his cheek.

Dublin High School student Quantavis Lovett, 18, graduated a little over two weeks after being caught up in the seemingly random attack in Dublin, Georgia, 11Alive reported.

He was left on life support after being critically injured with bullets in the neck, back and buttocks on May 5 — but woke determined to recover in time to graduate and walk across the stage unaided.

“’I can’t die,’ I just kept saying that in my head – even when I was in the ambulance,” Lovett said, before revealing he asked doctors if he would be able to walk again.

“He said if you get out of here in time, I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine to walk,” the student said.

Lovett was discharged from the hospital six days after being shot, and on May 22, walked across the stage unaided — but with a bullet that had pierced his neck still lodged in his cheek.

“I felt great when I walked across the stage like it was like a lot of stress, a lot of anger, all of that relief,” Lovell, who played football in school and plans to study computer science at Clark Atlanta University, said.

“I heard a lot of people screaming. They were even relieved that I could walk.”

Karmelo Anthony claims he’s ‘penniless,’ can’t afford lawyer for appeal — despite pocketing $625,000 — after murder conviction
Convicted killer Karmelo Anthony has claimed he’s “penniless” and can’t afford a lawyer for his appeal — despite his family collecting $625,000 in crowdfunding for his legal defense and “living expenses,” according to a report.

Anthony, 19, made the assertion in a notice of appeal filed after he was found guilty of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf and sentenced to 35 years behind bars, according to a report by ABC WFAA.

Anthony — who was moved to a Texas state prison Wednesday — is “penniless, destitute, and indigent person, too poor to employ counsel to represent me on the appeal,” reads the appeal form.

Anthony’s defense attorney, Mike Howard, said the defense has “several important issues for the appellate courts to consider. An appeal is the next part of the legal process and a right afforded every American.”

The GiveSendGo that was set up for Anthony by his mom was closed down Wednesday but a new account could be opened to help fund his new appeal.

It’s unclear how a judge would factor in the $625,000 his family collected when determining if he should be considered indigent and eligible for a taxpayer-funded lawyer for his appeal.

The fundraising page said the donations wouldn’t only cover legal fees but would help Anthony’s family relocate to escape threats they’ve received and to cover basic needs, counseling and security measures.

Anthony was convicted of killing Metcalf on April 2, 2025, during a high school track and field meet in Frisco, Texas.

The pair got into a disagreement after Metcalf, a student at Frisco Memorial High School, asked Anthony, a student at Frisco Centennial High School, to leave his team’s tent, jurors heard at trial.

Things escalated with Metcalf shoving Anthony, who responded by taking a folding knife out of his backpack and stabbing Metcalf once in the chest, according to trial testimony.
Anthony claimed the knifing was self-defense.

6th-grader chokes to death in NY school during apparent TikTok challenge
A Yonkers middle school student died after choking in school Wednesday morning in what might have been connected to a social media trend, according to officials and a report.

A sixth-grade boy suffered the medical emergency and became unresponsive inside Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School around 11:40 a.m., according to Yonkers school officials.

First responders attempted to revive the 12-year-old, but he was pronounced dead after he was brought to St. Joseph’s Hospital, school officials said.
“As police investigate the nature of the medical emergency, we remain focused on caring for his classmates, teachers and staff who are in terrible pain,” Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr. said in a statement.

Police were probing whether the “One Bite” TikTok challenge was possibly behind the choking death, News 12 reported. The challenge involved attempting to eat as much as possible in a single bite.

The student, who has not been identified, might have been eating a donut, the outlet reported, citing authorities.

“Anything about a TikTok challenge, anything about witness statements, the events leading up to this we’re going to investigate and we’re going to continue with the investigation from beginning to end,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza said at a news conference Thursday.

Soler Jr. said the incident didn’t take place in the cafeteria, but on the fourth floor hallway and staff immediately rushed to his aid in a bid to dislodge the food stuck in his throat.

“This young man was a bright light in the building,” the school chief said. “Everybody loved him, everybody knew him. He was energy, he was joy.”

A message to Yonkers police was not immediately returned.
“Today’s tragic loss is heartbreaking,” Mayor Mike Spano said in a statement.

“The death of a child is every parent’s worst nightmare, and our entire Yonkers community is grieving alongside this student’s family, classmates, teachers, and loved ones.”

NH court overturns conviction of dad for killing of little Harmony Montgomery on infuriating legal technicality

The New Hampshire father convicted of murdering and hiding the body of his daughter Harmony Montgomery had his conviction tossed by the state’s highest court on a legal technicality.

Adam Montgomery’s 2024 second-degree murder conviction was reversed by the state’s Supreme Court Thursday after his attorneys successfully argued the charge should have been tried separately from an assault charge against his daughter that was also heard at his trial.

The supreme court ruled unanimously to overturn the murder charge, arguing the evidence of assault was stronger than murder – and that trying them together would have biased the jury towards finding Montgomery guilty of murder.

“There was a significant risk that the jury would draw the impermissible inference that because the defendant assaulted the victim before by striking her in the head, he must be the one who fatally assaulted her in December by again striking her in the head,” the ruling read.

State prosecutors said they would pursue a new murder trial.

Montgomery was accused of battering 5-year-old Harmony after she soiled the car he was living in with his wife and three kids in Dec. 2019, allegedly beating her in the face so badly that she died.

It allegedly took the family hours to realize the girl was dead, and Montgomery allegedly spent the next three months moving the body – stuffed in a duffel bag — from hiding place to hiding place, his wife testified at the murder trial.

Those hiding places included the trunk of a friend’s car, a cooler at an apartment building, a workplace freezer, and a ceiling vent at a homeless shelter – only moving it from those vents after people started complaining about a smell.

Harmony’s remains were never found, but prosecutors alleged he likely disposed of it somewhere around Boston in 2020.

The girl wasn’t even reported missing until 2021 – two years after her death.

Much of the trial was based on testimony from Montgomery’s wife, Kayla, who struck a deal with prosecutors to receive 18 months in prison for lying about when she last saw her step-daughter.

Montgomery was serving a combined 56-years-to-life for the grisly crime, 45 years of which were for the murder conviction.

His other charges – on top of assault — included abuse of a co**se, witness tampering, and falsifying evidence.

Montgomery will not be sprung from jail because of the overturn, however, as he is also serving more than 32 years for a separate gun conviction.

Prosecutors expressed confidence that Montgomery would be convicted of murder again once he goes back to trial.

“We remain confident in the facts of this case, the evidence presented, and the exceptional work of our prosecutors, investigators, and law enforcement partners,” said a representative for the state attorney general office.

“We will continue our efforts to seek justice for Harmony Montgomery and all those who knew and loved her.”

Anonymous tip claimed Nancy Guthrie ‘grave’ found in Mexico — sparking massive search
A group that works to locate missing people in Mexico said they searched for Nancy Guthrie after they received an anonymous tip that she was buried around the border in an unmarked grave.

Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of Buscando Corazones Nogales, said the group received a tip on Wednesday about Guthrie, 84, who was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home more than 70 miles north of the border city of Nogales.
The group carried out an initial investigation of the area provided by the tipster, where they previously found 25 unmarked graves, but the search for Guthrie came up empty, Ayala Ortiz told El Imparcial.

Despite the roadblock, the groups said they would continue future search operations in the area to find Guthrie and any other missing persons.

The area, known as “Mariposa” or butterfly in English, is located northwest of Nogales, with the latest search piercing deeper than when the group found the initial graves earlier this year.

“We received an anonymous call telling us that the woman’s [Guthrie’s] remains were in the Mariposa area — in a grave over a stream,” Ayala Ortiz said of the tip, which provided clues as to where exactly the tomb might be.

The search effort was also conducted with the help of the Sonora State Commission for the Search of Missing Person, with municipal and state officials providing security forces to keep the volunteers and workers safe.

Guthrie, the mom of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her home in the early hours of Feb. 1, with the investigation into her disappearance still ongoing.

Guthrie is believed to have been taken from her Catalina Foothills home, but no arrests have been made and no new leads have manifested.

WASHINGTON — The White House and UFC welcomed dozens of stunned journalists Thursday to the site of the formerly grassy South Lawn, which has been transformed into a massive arena to host a seven-fight mixed martial arts showdown due to start at 8 p.m. Sunday.

President Trump, who is celebrating his 80th birthday the same evening, told The Post the fight will be an invigorating expo for Americans, who can watch the event on CBS or Paramount Plus, along with about 4,000 people who scored a spot for a coveted ticket.

“They’re the roughest people you’ll ever meet, I will tell you. I don’t know how they do it,” Trump said in a phone interview.
“They’re all champions, every one. You’re not going to believe it. If you haven’t seen it much, you’re not going to believe it,” added Trump, who has attended many UFC fights with his friend Dana White, CEO of the organization and developer of the “Freedom250” fight concept.

Trump and the winners of two championship matches will be presented with massive belts containing 60 carats of diamonds and 2 carats of rubies — the most expensive ever produced — according to a UFC press release, which doesn’t specify the cost.

The event ostensibly celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and its two championship fights are expected to be the most closely watched of the seven contests.

American Justin Gaethje will fight Ilia Topuria from the nation of Georgia for the lightweight title.

The famed Alex Pereira of Brazil and Ciryl Gane of France will vie for the interim heavyweight title.

Of the seven fights, the two title bouts will have five rounds of 5 minutes — unless one of the men submits or gets knocked out. The remaining five non-championship matches will have three five-minute rounds.

The Gaethje-Topuria match offers a clear potential moment for American national pride, but Trump held his cards close on who he’s rooting for, saying, “They’re all friends of mine.”

“It’s a great match, boy, they’re both great fighters, they’re all great,” the president told The Post.
“Pereira is the number one fighter in the world, he’s fighting,” Trump added.

“These tickets are selling for a fortune.”

The UFC’s octagon fighting ring, positioned roughly where the Marine One helicopter typically lands, is surrounded by elevated seating supported by massive under-floor scaffolding that corrects for the lawn’s slope.

Towering over the makeshift facility are two massive arches of steel holding lighting and limited protection from rain — nicknamed “The Claw” for the four-legged metal span’s resemblance to a vending-machine clasp used to retrieve toys.

Beneath the makeshift structure are small trailers for talent and event staff. One is labeled “Octagon Girls.”

Closer to the Washington Monument are large event tents and portable bathrooms flanking the lawn’s iconic fountain.

The 14 fighters are expected to enter the cage through the White House, though the precise choreography of their entrance likely will be a night-of surprise. They will pass a bell and drums on their way to the octagon.
Prime cage-side seats nearest to the action are expected to be filled by Trump and prominent guests, including members of his family and top White House aides.

White told TMZ in an interview that Trump was given 1,000 tickets to distribute.

Another 200 tickets were at the disposal of the UFC CEO, while 200 more were given out by Ari Emanuel, the CEO of UFC’s parent company TKO Group Holdings and brother of likely 2028 Democratic presidential candidate Rahm Emanuel, a former chief of staff to President Barack Obama.

“The rest are all going to the military,” White said, suggesting roughly 2,600 tickets for military personnel.

However, a National Park Service Court filing on Tuesday cited a lower figure of “more than 1,000 members of our armed services.”

The precise breakdown may be altered by last-minute invites as desperate would-be attendees work their contacts to try to land a spot at the event that some Trump critics have likened to a scene out of “Idiocracy.”

Thirty-five journalists are expected to attend as members of an enlarged pool.

The Ellipse parkland immediately south of the White House lawn, meanwhile, can accommodate 120,000 additional people who sought tickets — though the weather in the notoriously hot and muggy capital may dictate turnout.

Mark Shapiro, president and chief operating officer of UFC parent company TKO, told The Hollywood Reporter that “we will not be making money on America’s 250th anniversary. This is an investment for the long term. This is about earned media.”

“We see this once-in-a-lifetime stage as a strategic investment to drive subscriber acquisition at Paramount+, massive audience sampling for the UFC overall and Super Bowl-like earned media across the globe,” Shapiro said.

Postpartum mom Lindsay Clancy killed 3 kids with ‘extreme atrocity and cruelty’ — using common household item, prosecutors say
Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy showed “extreme atrocity and cruelty” when she killed her three kids with exercise bands prosecutors argued, Thursday.

Evidence from the scene — including the fact that her husband Patrick Clancy was able to quickly remove the bands from his children’s throats after finding them dead at their Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023 suggests that the killings were savage and deliberate, according to prosecutors.

Patrick was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when he finally discovered Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month old Callan in the basement – and as police were headed down the stairs – crying, “She killed the kids!” according to court papers from last week.

Patrick found the children, each with an exercise band around their necks, but by the time first responders got to the basement, “each band [was] lying next to each child,” the filing alleges.

“The brief time between finding each child and the fact that Mr. Clancy was able to remove each band so quickly” suggested the theory that Lindsay may have tied the bands in a knot and walked away couldn’t be true, prosecutors claimed.

Instead, the evidence suggested “she manually pulled the bands around each child’s neck until they died,” showing “the deliberateness of her acts and the extreme atrocity and cruelty of her acts,” the court papers alleged.

Prosecutors revealed the evidence as they sought for Patrick’s 911 call to be admitted into Lindsay’s July trial, claiming it’s a critical piece of evidence in helping to prove their case, Court TV first reported.
A lawyer for Lindsay, a 35-year-old former nurse, has said they don’t plan to dispute that she carried out the horrific slayings but rather will argue she was overmedicated and suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time.

She is planning to ask a jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity.

Both Lindsay and Patrick have filed lawsuits against the doctors who were treating Lindsay claiming they failed to properly diagnose her and gave her the wrong treatments.
