When we set out to create a fun jungle themed nursery for our daughter, the unexpected challenges we faced were what ended up making her room even more special.

Story Time:
The first challenge we faced was that the room itself did not exist. Our 1928 Fairytale Tudor Cottage had all of 2 bedrooms, a massive dean, and no flow to the floor plan. When I say massive dean, I mean we were able to get 2 nice size bedrooms out of the square footage of this one room. We split the room down the middle and went from there.
Ok, I know what y'all might be thinking. Why would you rip that fireplace out? There were several factors to consider when making this call. The dean, as well as the fireplace and built-ins, were not original to the house, circa 1991. The room needed a proper closet over a fireplace that was not practical to have in a childs bedroom. The only closet space curretly available was the space under the stairs. Let's be honest that is not a functional closet for any kiddo past toddler age, let alone a teenage girl. It was obvious that not doing this now would just be kicking the can down the road. Also, the fireplace venting ran through an upstairs walk-in closet that impeded the proper use of that space. So yes, the firplace lost the pros and cons battle.
Once construction was complete, the new challenge was the closet doors. I had not initially intended on having this closet open. The idea was to have custom mirrored vintage style doors made. COVID was still in full swing, and having those doors made was just not an option at that time. In my attempt to improvise, we actually ended up loving how the open closet looked and functioned. Now, having a kiddo of our own, I understand how I was asking for a full-time cleaning job with those mirrored doors 🙃 Sometimes the best laid design plans take a turn for the better.
