One of the many benefits of being a member of is the opportunity to experience the latest innovations in design firsthand.

This past spring, Charles C. Almonte, Andrea Small | The Adored Nest and I visited the Washington, DC showroom for Bosch Home Appliances US • Thermador • Gaggenau Official, where we explored three distinct approaches to luxury kitchen design, each offering its own unique balance of performance, craftsmanship, and innovation.

The experience was made even better with a wonderful brunch prepared by Joe Marshall, who showcased the appliances in action while sharing his culinary expertise.

These showroom visits are about more than beautiful products—they help us make informed recommendations and create even better experiences for our clients. (Although I can’t promise Chef Joe will be there every time! 😉)

Some works of art stay with you long after you first experience them.

Kerry James Marshall has an extraordinary ability to capture everyday moments and remind us of their beauty, significance, and humanity. His work celebrates Black life, culture, joy, and intimacy—not as something extraordinary, but as something worthy of being seen.

Untitled (Club Couple) is one I return to often. The colors, composition, and storytelling pull you in, but it’s the quiet details that make you pause and look closer.

For me, those details are what make art so powerful—the ability to tell a story, create emotion, and transform how we experience a space.

Look closely...did you notice the small detail in his hand?

Travel the world...without leaving your backyard.

This season, I’m drawing inspiration from destinations known for beautiful outdoor living—from the South of France to the Seychelles and Morocco.

Sometimes all it takes is one thoughtfully chosen piece to transform an outdoor space and evoke the feeling of your favorite destination.

Which destination inspires your outdoor style?

A beautiful evening at with .
It was so much fun hanging out with fellow DCDC members, playing mini-golf, sharing great conversations, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
Creative communities matter. They inspire us, challenge us, and remind us that some of the best ideas—and connections—begin in conversation.

Some of the most meaningful pieces in a home aren’t the newest ones—they’re the ones that carry a family’s story.
My client wanted to surprise her husband by restoring his great-grandfather’s chair, a treasured heirloom that had witnessed generations of family life. She didn’t want to replace it. She wanted to preserve its history while giving it new life for their family.

Together, we selected Kravet’s Tessa Moonstone fabric, whose timeless pattern beautifully complements the chair’s classic lines. With the expert craftsmanship of UR Fabric, this cherished piece was thoughtfully restored while honoring everything it had meant to the family.
When her husband saw the finished chair, he was overcome with emotion.

Moments like these remind me that great design isn’t always about creating something new.
Sometimes it’s about recognizing the value of what’s already there and ensuring its story continues for generations to come.

Sometimes the most inspiring design element is something the client already owns.

In this primary bedroom, a deconstructed metallic Greek Key screen became the inspiration for the entire space. Rather than using it as originally intended, I reimagined it as an architectural headboard, creating an unexpected focal point that brings both structure and personality to the room.

To reinforce its quiet glamour, the ceiling is wrapped in a luminous Ralph Lauren wallcovering that softly reflects the light throughout the day, while floating nightstands, layered bedding, and luxurious textures complete a retreat designed to feel elegant, warm, and inviting.

Beautiful design isn’t always about adding something new. Sometimes it’s about seeing new possibilities in what’s already there.

A recent visit to Carpet Creations | Rug Atelier reminded me of one of my favorite parts of the design process — exploring the possibilities.

Selecting the right materials is about more than finding something beautiful. It requires understanding how each element contributes to the overall vision of a space — the texture, color, durability, and the way it will feel in someone’s home.

Working with trusted vendor partners allows me to explore options, ask questions, and source thoughtfully for each client’s unique needs.

Because great design is not about selecting individual pieces. It’s about creating a home where every detail feels intentional.

Andrea Small of Andrea Small | The Adored Nest, Jazmyne Simmons of Jazmyne Design Studio | Interior Design, and I had the pleasure of spending time with Eliza Irwin of The Charles Stewart Company Eliza Irwin Charles Stewart, a custom upholstered furniture manufacturer based in North Carolina. Eliza walked us through their beautiful selection of materials, finishes, and customization options for sofas, chairs, headboards, and accent pieces.

One of the things I love most about working with skilled manufacturers and craftspeople is the ability to create something that feels truly personal for my clients. Customization opens the door to possibilities — allowing each piece to support not only the design of a space, but the way someone wants to live in it.

Thank you, Eliza, for such an engaging and inspiring presentation. Andrea, Jazmyne, and I left excited about the opportunity to visit the Charles Stewart facility during the upcoming High Point Market.
