PUMPKIN
*November 25, 2007 – June 2, 2026*
Yesterday, we said goodbye to our sweet beloved Pumpkin.
They say dogs choose their owners, and if that’s true, Pumpkin chose us on a summer day in 2008 when Roman and I made an unexpected stop at a dog adoption event in the old Tower Records parking lot in Los Angeles.
Among all the dogs barking for attention was one honey-colored puppy with a stubby tail, floppy ears and her nose glued to the ground, completely uninterested in being chosen.
That was Pumpkin.
The moment Roman picked her up, it was love at first sight.
What we didn’t know then was that this little rescue dog would become the center of our universe.
Pumpkin was Roman’s shadow, his constant companion, and one of the gentlest souls we’ve ever known. She traveled the world with us—from Martha’s Vineyard to Prague, Tuscany to St. Moritz, New York to San Francisco—serving as our ring bearer in Connecticut and again in Prague, charming everyone she met along the way.
She chased squirrels, ran wild on beaches, explored forests, vineyards, and city streets, and somehow made every destination feel like home.
For nearly eighteen years, she was there for every milestone, celebration, heartbreak, adventure, and ordinary day. Through it all, she gave us her unconditional love.
Our house feels impossibly quiet now.
No flap of the doggie door. No clicking paws on the floor. No little wiggly tail waiting for Roman to come home.
Just eighteen years of beautiful memories and immeasurable gratitude.
If dogs do choose their owners, we will spend the rest of our lives grateful that Pumpkin chose us.
